THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 7, 2025

Emma Navarro

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

M. ANDREEVA/E. Navarro

6-2, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Emma, tough one obviously today. Could you just talk a little bit about the match, please?

EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, definitely tough. I think Mirra is a really good player. Didn't have enough good stuff to combat that. I think she served really well, and it took me a bit to kind of push back against that and gain a bit of traction on the return.

I struggled with my serve there at times and struggled with my backhand a little bit. Yeah, a bit disappointed, but you know, I feel like I did all the things I wanted to do to put myself in the best chance or in the best place to have the best chance and couldn't quite make it happen.

Yeah, I'm feeling good about the path I'm on.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. I just wanted to ask about playing Mirra at the moment on grass. What makes it so tough? She's 18, but she seems to be so complete.

EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, she's a really tough player. I think, you know, all around she just has a really, like you said, complete game. I think she has the power on the serve. She's good off the ground from the baseline. She's really tough when points extend and things get scrappy. You know, she'll underspin or throw the ball up in the air.

Even when you feel like you're in a good position to win the point, you always have to hit an extra ball or two. So, yeah, I think she's a very complete player.

Q. Is there anyone you would compare her to as an opponent, or is she quite a unique prospect?

EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, I think she's pretty unique. Yeah, no one really comes to mind.

Q. I was wondering, it took a few games that really you start playing your good level, like using your whole body and moving well. It was another person on court, and I say the level was really high the next games. What took it some time? Because of the weather? Because of the warmup? Because you showed a lot your body language, you showed it a lot.

EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, I agree with you. I think it took me a few games to sort of have a clear purpose, I guess. Like I wasn't exactly sure of how I wanted to play her, I guess.

You know, you go out there with a game plan, but it takes a little bit of feeling exactly what you want to do, and I think it took me a little bit. Yeah, it's also just working your way into a match. You know, you're never comfortable from the first point, so it's kind of just dealing with what she's throwing at you and figuring out what I want to throw at her that takes a little bit of time.
