THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 7, 2025

Clara Tauson

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/C. Tauson

6-4, 6-1

THE MODERATOR: Bad luck today. Can you talk a little bit about what was happening out there and how the match went?

CLARA TAUSON: I played against one of the best players in the world, and I'm not feeling so good today. Yeah, I couldn't really breathe, and then it's really hard to play against Iga.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. If you could explain a little bit about those difficulties against Iga, what was the hardest thing to face when playing Swiatek?

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah, I mean, if you want to beat Iga, you have to be 110%. Today I was probably around 30 and not feeling so great.

Yeah, I mean, she was a bit nervous in the beginning I think. But as soon as she wasn't nervous anymore, I think I couldn't follow my legs, and my head was not there. She's probably impossible to beat.

Q. Even though you've lost, do you consider this week one of your greatest ever?

CLARA TAUSON: Yeah. I mean, it's definitely in the top three. So, yeah, it's been a really good week. I'm really sad that it had to end like this. I would much rather have lost and felt great and been able to compete.

But yeah, I know how my conditions were before I stepped on court, and I gave everything I had, even though I was not very good.

Q. In the first set the grass, there was something that you said you were struggling with. What was it specifically?

CLARA TAUSON: I felt like it was quite slippery. My normal game, I can't slide on grass. Yeah, I took two pretty heavy slides in my first service game, and then after that, I was maybe a bit more careful.

Yeah, I was just telling the umpire, like, I can't really slide, so I don't know why I can suddenly.

Q. What did the umpire say back?

CLARA TAUSON: She said that it's different to play in the night than in the morning. But I already played one night session, and I didn't feel like this. Maybe it was just the court, I don't know.

Q. You struggled a bit with your serves today when this week they've been really strong. Was it just because you were feeling ill, or was there something else?

CLARA TAUSON: No, definitely because of my health today, I didn't have any power in my legs or in my arm. It's really hard to serve.

Even when I was just trying to put the first serve in, I didn't have any speed to keep it in the court. Yeah, it's not funny to have to blame it on your health, but today was really tough for me.
