Press Conference
J. SINNER/G. Dimitrov
3-6, 5-7, 2-2 (ret.)
THE MODERATOR: Clearly not the way you would want to get through at all. Give us your quick thoughts.
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I think I said everything on court, no? Unlucky for him. He was playing incredible tennis for two sets. Yeah, it's not the way you want to finish a match, no?
THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.
Q. Can you tell us exactly what happened with your elbow on that fall, and how much pain was there during the match? What is your level of concern?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, it happened very early in the match, first game. Was quite unfortunate fall. Checked the videos a little bit, and it didn't seem tough one, but I still felt it quite a lot, especially serve and forehand.
I could feel it. So let's see. Tomorrow we are going to check to see how it is, and then we see.
Q. Have you had a chance to speak to Grigor since coming off court? What is your understanding of what happened to him?
JANNIK SINNER: I don't know. I saw him, but in these situations, he's with the team. I don't want to get too close. We are good friends, yes, but it's a very tough moment.
For me going there and talking, I don't think it's the right moment. Yeah, I don't know anything at the moment.
Q. With your elbow, not having your own physio at this tournament, how are you planning to get help?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, here they have good ATP physios, in any case. The doctor's good. As I said, tomorrow we are going to check with MRI to see if there's something serious, and then we try to adjust it.
Q. How were you feeling out there on court? Grigor seemed to be troubling you quite a lot in the first two sets. What was he doing to affect your game?
JANNIK SINNER: He served incredibly well. Very precise, also very fast. Changed up the game very, very good. It was a bit breezy, and he used the wind in the best possible way. I could feel that he prepared the match in a very good way, and he executed even better.
Yeah, he was playing some great tennis. After with the roof closed, you don't know what's happening. There were some good rallies in the beginning of third set.
But yeah, I mean, I tried to stay there mentally. I broke him back on 5-4. Then he played, again, lights out tennis to break me back.
Yeah, I think he's showing his potential. It's very unfortunate, as I said on court. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Q. Assuming you're okay, your next opponent, Shelton, what are your thoughts about facing him and the difficulty?
JANNIK SINNER: Yeah, I mean, return of the serve, for sure, is the first thing. Obviously he has improved a lot in back of the court. He had a great match against Carlos in Paris, too.
He knows also how to play on every surface. I faced him last year here. Was a very, very difficult match. So let's see what's coming, but it's going to be a problem in two days, no?
Now I have to focus on other stuff first and hopefully be 100%.
