THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 10, 2025

Belinda Bencic

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/B. Bencic

6-2, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: Belinda, disappointing for you today. Can you take some positives from your performance in this fortnight?

BELINDA BENCIC: Yeah, for sure. I definitely thought today was just a different level from Iga. I thought she played amazing and didn't feel like she let me in the match for one second.

Of course, I gave my best. I'm really proud of this tournament. There's nothing I really regret today. Yeah, in the end she was just too good, and I was a step too short.

Yeah, so congratulations to her. Also, yeah, I'm super happy with the tournament. For sure I will have time to reflect. Yeah, very motivated for the next tournaments, as well.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What positives can you take from a run like that, reaching a semifinals at Wimbledon?

BELINDA BENCIC: For sure a lot of positives. I felt like I got through my matches. I was mentally very good this tournament. I didn't feel in all of my matches that I was playing lights-out tennis, which actually gives me a little bit more confidence than if I was just on fire.

I feel like if I can get through matches without even playing, like, my complete best tennis, I think it gives me more from that. I'm definitely looking to build on that.

Definitely reached my goal to be top 20 again at the end of the year, so that box is ticked. I'm very motivated to keep going up in the rankings and also playing my next tournaments.

Q. Do you feel that was the best tennis you've had of the year, at least in the grass season, or is there another level you can go forward?

BELINDA BENCIC: I hope there is another level to go forward. I didn't feel, like I said, that I was playing my absolutely best tennis of my life. For sure I felt like I played really good, so don't get me wrong. But I think there is stuff I can improve also physically, also tennis-wise. I hope to build on that.

Q. Do you think there's anything you could have done differently tactically against Iga?

BELINDA BENCIC: Honestly, I'm not sure. I'm not sure yet. I just definitely felt like she was completely on fire. Yeah, I will, of course, watch the match again and see also with my team what I could have done differently, but maybe I would have had to play my absolutely best tennis of my life and risk every shot to beat her today the way she played.

Q. What did she do so well to make it tricky?

BELINDA BENCIC: Well, I think she was just playing very, very fast, very accurate, serving great. Just didn't really let me in the match. Like, she didn't allow me to play my game.

Q. What aspects of your game would you say you've developed the most confidence in throughout this grass court season that you can take into the North American hard court swing?

BELINDA BENCIC: I feel like my forehand is improving all the time. This is for sure a goal. This is something that we are working on. And generally just my ability to stay in points and also to kind of see what works best against every opponent. I feel like I can adapt my game a lot and just try to find a way to win.

Q. Do you think the heat of today or playing back-to-back matches, do you think it's a factor of this result?

BELINDA BENCIC: No, I don't think so. Of course, playing back to back is a given. There's nothing you think about this. You cannot control it, so you just accept how it is.

For sure maybe if I would have had a day off, I would have had a little more time to recover. It's not something you think about if it's not controllable.

So I don't think anything with that had to do. She was just much better than me today.
