THE CHAMPIONSHIPS

July 11, 2025

Carlos Alcaraz

Wimbledon, London, UK

Press Conference

C. ALCARAZ/T. Fritz

6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6

THE MODERATOR: Carlos, third final in a row. Just tell us how you're feeling.

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Yeah, I can't be prouder, to be honest. Just really happy to make my third consecutive final here at Wimbledon playing such a great tennis. Just really, really happy. Just can't wait for Sunday.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. What are your reflections now on the French Open final against Jannik Sinner? Have you watched it back? Is it one of the greatest matches you've ever been involved in?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, I didn't watch again. Just a few clips, to be honest, few points, but not that much.

But I still thinking about that moment, you know, sometimes. Yeah, probably the best... I mean, 'probably' no. It was the best match that I have ever played so far.

I'm not surprised he just pushed me to the limit. I expect that on Sunday just to be in the limit, to be on the line. Yeah, just going to be a great day, a great final. I'm just excited about it.

So, I mean, I just hope not to be five hours and a half on court again (smiling). As I said, if I have to, I will. But I think it's going to be great.

Q. Jannik won quite easily against Novak. Did that surprise you? Does it concern you?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Yeah, that match surprised me a little bit obviously. Winning Novak is a really difficult challenge, really difficult things to do. So beating him quite easily, so it's even harder.

But the level that Jannik's playing, it's really high, as always. I think he doesn't get down his level in the matches. It's unbelievable what he can do on a tennis court.

But yeah, let's see. That match today was surprise me a little bit.

Q. Many people have described the era of Roger, Rafa, and Novak as the Golden Era of tennis. How would you describe what you and Jannik are doing now that one of the two of you has won the last six majors?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, yeah, I think the things that we are doing right now I think is great for tennis. We just fight for just engage more people to watch tennis. We're just fighting for the tennis to be bigger, as all the tennis players are doing.

For me, yeah, it's sharing the big tournaments with Jannik, I think it is great or just playing in the finals of the tournaments and in final rounds of the tournament. I think it's great, or at least for me.

We are still really young. So I just hope that a lot of things or just to keep doing the right things for, I don't know, the next, I don't know, 5, 10 years, just to be our rivalry to the same table as those players.

Q. Your last match against Jannik here at Wimbledon was a couple years ago. How do you think grass will affect the matchup on Sunday?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Say again.

Q. Your match in 2020, what do you remember about that match? How do you think about grass as the next surface for this next match on Sunday will change the dynamics between the two of you?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Yeah, I remember that match, but it was three years ago. We are completely different player on grass, but in all surfaces. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be different.

I don't know, I just see Jannik playing a great tennis on grass. I said many times that the movement on grass is the hardest things to get and the most important things, at least for me. And the movement that Jannik has on grass is unbelievable. He's sliding like he's playing on clay from both legs. It's just unbelievable.

So it's going to be an interesting one. I'm not going to watch the match in 2022 because, as I said, we are just completely different players.

Q. In today's match, I noticed you serve and volleyed quite a lot. How important is that to you as part of your game on grass? It seems you're doing it more and more.

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, I just serving really good. I just feeling really comfortable doing serve and volley. I think I won a lot of serve and volley that I did today, just not letting the opponent just to get into the point, to get the good rhythm.

So, yeah, is something that I just doing a lot. I think on grass it is a surface that we can do is more often. I'm just really feeling comfortable doing it.

Q. How do you adapt your game on grass on such a hot day?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Well, I mean, we just play the same tennis. Yeah, it makes a little bit different playing with a lot of hot out there than, for example, the roof closed or windy conditions or cold conditions. But our tennis is just the same. I don't hit the ball differently just because of the heat or not. We just try to survive out there with the heat and just not letting the heat hitting us harder.

Q. Do you feel you go into the match against Jannik with a mental advantage after the comeback in Paris?

CARLOS ALCARAZ: Not at all, to be honest. What Jannik has, because he learned from everything as a huge champion, from the loses, from the matches he's playing, he just get better after every match, after every day.

I'm pretty sure he's going to take a lot of things from French Open final, that he's going to be better. He's being to be better physically, he's going to be better mentally. He's going to be prepared on Sunday to give his 100%.

I'm not thinking or I have advantage mentally Sunday because of that match.
