THE MODERATOR: How does it feel to be Wimbledon champions?

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: I mean, for me super special because it's my first slam in double. Wimbledon is always special. Yeah, I mean, I feel so, so happy.

ELISE MERTENS: Yeah, I mean, it's an incredible feeling. There is no feeling like winning The Championships. It was a very close match today. I was so happy that we converted our first match point.

So, yeah, two happy people.

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. You must be on such a high. What does it feel like to win Wimbledon? I'll never win it. Can you describe the feeling? What's it like?

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: I mean, for the moment, I mean me right now, I'm not feel that I'm Wimbledon champion in double, but maybe in the evening or tomorrow I will realize it.

But when I finish the match, I mean, was so emotional. I even start to cry a little bit, but then I saw Elise. She cry. Okay, I have to hold my emotion (laughing).

ELISE MERTENS: I mean, it's an incredible feeling. I feel it already.

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: Good.

ELISE MERTENS: I was very locked in at the end. We both were. Then we just let all the emotions out because, you know, tennis is an emotional sport. Yeah, I mean, we're only here once a year, so you try to be the best you can be. We're very fortunate to win this one together.

Q. What was your message to each other after that first set? What do you talk about, because you rallied then?

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: Yeah, I say to Elise that I think we play good, but we don't have enough energy. Like, we have to hit the ball, we have to show them that we're in the game, that we try to do everything from outside. I think that was the key because our opponent, they also play very, very well. I mean, it just was very, very tight.

I think because, I mean, maybe we really want that and we try to show our energy, and that was the key. I think it's like that, because by the tennis side, everybody play very good.

Q. How does it feel to win together?

ELISE MERTENS: I mean, very special. I'm very happy that she's by my side. So the partnership came in place, like this is our fifth tournament together again. We played in the past, and we had some great results.

You know, we already felt like from the first match on, the first match we were back together, that you know, we're a good team and we can trust each other, we can build together. I think this is a cherry on top of the cake.

Q. When you guys entered the tournament, to become Wimbledon champions, was that a realistic goal for you both?

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: I mean, for me it was the goal to win this slam. But I mean, I didn't expected to win that one. French Open, I play with Elise. We play against Sara Errani and Jasmine. In the end they won the tournament.

The Wimbledon, when it started, say, Okay, maybe this is our chance. I will try to do best what I can from my side, and we will see.

Q. How will you celebrate tonight? Will there be a big party?

ELISE MERTENS: We have the Wimbledon ball to go to. I won it in 2021, and it was COVID, so there was no ball. It's going to be my first time too. So it's going to be fun. My dad is here too and coach/husband and boyfriend. We will be celebrating together with family, so that's precious.

Q. What does the future look like for you two? Will you continue playing together for the rest of the season?

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA: For this season, yes.

ELISE MERTENS: You look at year by year. Of course, winning such a tournament like this gives us a lot of confidence as a team. I mean, we're at the middle of the season, a little bit over, so it gives us confidence to keep playing together.

Of course, at the end of the season we will talk to each other again. But for now, I mean, we're feeling very well.
