North Berwick, Scotland

The Renaissance Club

Quick Quotes

Q. 63, do you feel that that was out there today

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, I feel like that's been out there for me this week. I feel like at times I've done a lot of good things this week. I drove the ball much much better.

Yesterday I started to see my iron play improve. Felt like I've been hitting a lot of good putts all week. Yeah I was kind of hopeful that I could have something going for me today, but yeah, I think it's been a beautiful week, hasn't it.

This golf course certainly isn't easy, but there are stretches where you need to take advantage of it and momentum-wise, although, really, to be honest, I didn't even hole a putt today until the 18th green. Nice to see one of distance go in the last.

That's maybe about as clean a round as I've played all year to be honest with you. People think about the Masters but there were a few bogeys in there whereas today was 7 birdies, virtually no long putts holed. It was just a very, very clean round of golf. I thought I did a really good job early in my round if I think about it now as I'm talking, holing quite a few good, 4-, 5-, 6-foot par putts early in my round to keep me head up and moving forward.

Yeah, I really, really enjoyed it, and obviously a great way to build momentum into next week.

Q. The rough isn't deep, and you have to find the fairways to give yourself opportunity.

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, links golf is like that. You can kind of get away with scrambling and you can get the ball on the green, and you have flyer lies and you can end up 40, 45, 50 feet a lot of the time. But to really get the ball close to the hole, yeah, you do, you need to be with the right angle in the fairway and then you can play aggressively. That is often the beauty of links.

Q. Might be a couple short, 11-under.

JUSTIN ROSE: I was pushing hard. I didn't give up hope. At the beginning of the day I wasn't necessarily thinking about winning but I set myself a target with five holes to play, if I can finish 4-under from here, and that would have got to 12. I finished at 11. I thought 12 at least asks the question. I still don't think 12 will do it, but that was all that was left for me out there.

Still, listen, points are important, whether it be FedExCup, DP World Tour, World Ranking, all of the above. So yeah, there's always something to play for down the stretch.

Q. In terms of next week, remembering 12 months ago going to Troon, I don't know what the weather is going to be like quite yet at Portrush. What are you expecting there in terms of weather and your own form?

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, looks mix, mixed bag from a weather point of view. I think we used up all of our luck this week Scotland. I think there is going to be some rain sneak into the forecast. Ireland does seem wetter up there than even here. Mixed bag, I would say. Be prepared for all eventualities. Doesn't look like we have a craze storm coming in, 13- or 14-mile-an-hour winds. Looks like your normal typical 5-, 10-, 15-mile-an-hour winds. With that in mind, you have to play some good golf and be aggressive and look for some birdies.

Q. Fantastic venue, isn't it.

JUSTIN ROSE: Yeah, Portrush is amazing. I was lucky enough to go there a couple weeks ago, and yeah, it's a wonderful golf course. The whole area, they just love their golf up there.

So I'm expecting a really fun tournament, good crowds, good energy, and yeah, should be a wonderful Open.

Q. Has it changed much, do you think, in the last six years?

JUSTIN ROSE: I couldn't pick up on it really that much. I know the first green they shifted that around a little bit to try and bring that front bunker into play with a front left pin. But yeah, I couldn't pick up on the little changes.
