THE AMUNDI EVIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

July 12, 2025

Cara Gainer

Evian-les-Bains, France

Evian Resort Golf Club

TV

Q. Here with Cara Gainer after that terrific round of 64. Cara, at the moment you're at the top of that leaderboard. When did you feel like it was going to be a great day?

CARA GAINER: To be honest I had a great par save on the first and that settled me down. I was pretty nervous on first tee this morning. Playing with Celine as well, so home favorite, lots of big crowds out there.

So I just tried to settle in.

Then I rolled a few nice putts in the first five holes. Went from there.

Q. We talked a little bit on the broadcast about your wrist injury, which you've been suffering from for the last couple years. Been tough this year. How is it this week and how are you able to play so well?

CARA GAINER: I mean, yeah, it's not great this week unfortunately, but I'm just trying to manage it as best I can. Ice it regularly, morning and evening. Take a few ibuprofen and get me through this week.

Then I have a week off before Scotland so I'm just trying not to think about it really and just play my shots and execute them.

Q. It's been a really good season for you. You get that victory early in the year; you've been playing well; now you're in the lead in a major championship. What's been different for you this year? What has given you that edge?

CARA GAINER: To be honest I think it's the confidence obviously winning that first event on the LET of the season. I've had so many close calls last couple years finishing in a few second places, so I think getting over the line with that first really sort of allowed me to sort of flow and be happy and be -- enjoy my golf really.

I think that's kind of been the main key.
