Q. 18 points today. Just walk us through your first round today.

TONY ROMO: It was touch and go before the round, with my back. Kind of went out yesterday a little bit. It was tough this morning.

I'm actually pretty happy in some ways that I'm in the mix. If you asked me before the round when I'm trying to get through the ball and it's grabbing, it's actually a real positive.

Usually when I'm on the leaderboard on day one, usually we're going to end up hopefully be in there on Sunday. So hopefully that does happen the same way.

Q. What happened with your back yesterday?

TONY ROMO: I've had two back surgeries. It has its own way of going out, with family and everything and stuff goes on. But it was coming on last week and I could tell, but I have a great team working on it, Bruce Shawhan, is incredible. And I think that's the difference why I'm here.

Literally, when this happens, usually I'm not going to finish 18 holes, much less be in the mix. So even though I could have gone a little lower, I think that was a positive from where I was to start the day.

Q. The crowds out here, past champion here today, did the crowds kind of help get you through it today too?

TONY ROMO: I think that's exactly right. The crowds are incredible. The support off the charts. I feel I'm lucky to come out here and see everybody and the way they root you on really makes you want to do well with them. So many fun moments today, and my family being here watching it, feeling it, it's real. This is a real PGA TOUR event. Kind of a major event. So many people here. I don't think people understand how many people actually are here and how incredible the experience is.
