Q. This is not unprecedented, but it's very unusual. Can you explain to us exactly what the situation is right now?

BRAD ULLMAN: Yeah, terribly unfortunate situation to be in for anybody out here. We knew there were going to be some high winds today. We started off a little bit soft this morning, but these poniente winds of southern Spain are no joke, and when they made the turn to the western side throughout today and picked up the speed, that's when we started to see some oscillation of some golf balls over the last 45 minutes or so.

We brought out the agronomy team to perhaps spritz some of the greens to help with some of the movement, but ultimately the balls were moving a little bit too much for our liking. It was the right thing to bring them off the golf course because according to our meteorology team, there's going to be some more dangerous high winds, and when they mention those type of words with us, over 30 miles an hour, it's just not safe to be out here.

Q. You anticipated this because you kept the course very soft during the practice rounds, but how quickly does this course dry out in these winds?

BRAD ULLMAN: Yeah, all the easterly winds throughout, more humid winds leading up to today, and then it made the turn from the west, and that's when we started to see the course dry out with this heavier wind. Yes, the greens were drying out, the fairways continued to dry out, and that's when these gusts, especially up on 11 green, 14 green, the most exposed on the entire property, unfortunately, we just had to do it this time.

Q. What's the forecast for the winds in the late afternoon here? When do you anticipate getting the players back out onto the golf course?

BRAD ULLMAN: We obviously want to finish today, and we've got plenty of time to do so with sunset a lot later in the evenings here. But as the reports are still saying, these higher winds are going to continue to increase over the next hour or more, and we just want to keep monitoring that and monitoring these greens throughout the day. We're going to continue to spritz them with some water and make some they're tamed for when we do get a chance to get back out.

Q. Would you consider changing the setup of the course over the weekend because of these winds?

BRAD ULLMAN: Yes, we knew this going in, so we definitely took a positive look at what's going to happen with these westerly winds, and there's just some holes back here that are just brutal when it comes to this side. Yeah, we've thought about it and talked about it a lot. Looking at the same type of wind perhaps tomorrow and then maybe starting to switch back towards the easterly flow on Sunday.

P. No es algo sin precedentes, pero sí muy inusual. ¿Podrías explicarnos exactamente cuál es la situación actual?

BRAD ULLMAN: Sí, es una situación muy desafortunada para todos los que estamos aquí. Sabíamos que hoy habría vientos fuertes. Empezamos con un poco de suavidad esta mañana, pero estos vientos del poniente del sur de España no son ninguna broma, y cuando giraron hacia el oeste a lo largo del día y aumentaron su velocidad, fue entonces cuando empezamos a ver algunas oscilaciones en algunas pelotas durante los últimos 45 minutos de ronda que disputamos.

Llamamos al equipo de mantenimiento del campo para que rociara algunos greens y ayudara a reducir el movimiento, pero al final las bolas se movían demasiado a nuestro modo de ver. Lo correcto era cortar la ronda de hoy porque, según nuestro equipo de meteorología, iba a haber más vientos fuertes, y cuando dicen eso, es más de 30 millas por hora, y simplemente no es seguro estar aquí fuera.

P. Lo anticipaste porque mantuviste el campo muy blando durante las rondas de práctica, pero ¿a qué velocidad se seca este campo con estos vientos?

BRAD ULLMAN: Sí, empezamos estos días con vientos del este, que son vientos más húmedos, hasta hoy, cuando giraron hacia el oeste, y fue ahí cuando empezamos a ver cómo se secaba el campo. Sí, los greens se estaban secando, las calles seguían secándose, y fue entonces cuando estas ráfagas, especialmente en el green del 11 y el green del 14, los más expuestos de todo el campo, por desgracia, obligaron a parar.

P. ¿Cuál es la previsión de viento para última hora de la tarde? ¿Cuándo prevés que los jugadores vuelvan al campo de golf?

BRAD ULLMAN: Obviamente, queremos terminar hoy, y tenemos mucho tiempo para hacerlo, ya que aquí el sol se pone mucho más tarde. Pero, según siguen indicando los informes, estos vientos fuertes seguirán aumentando durante la próxima hora o más, y solo queremos seguir vigilando los greens a lo largo del día. Vamos a seguir rociándolos con agua para que estén en condiciones cuando tengamos la oportunidad de volver a salir.

P. ¿Considerarías cambiar la configuración del campo durante el fin de semana debido a estos vientos?

BRAD ULLMAN: Sí, lo sabíamos de antemano, así que habíamos analizado previamente lo que va a pasar con estos vientos del oeste, y hay algunos hoyos en este campo que son muy exigentes en lo que respecta a esta situación. Lo hemos pensado y lo hemos hablado mucho. Parece que mañana tendremos el mismo tipo de viento y que el domingo empezará a cambiar hacia el este.
