Quick Quotes
Q. Second round 63, when you looked at the forecast did you know you had to be aggressive today.
MATT FITZPATRICK: I actually didn't look at the forecast so I didn't know it was going to be as nice as it was. Got up this morning, where we're staying, view of the sea, and it was just flat. Just like a pond. So I knew it was obviously going to be a nice day.
Q. 63 today was the best of the year. What have you found the last few weeks?
MATT FITZPATRICK: My approach play is a lot better. I've been making some changes since the RBC, and just really felt more comfortable and hitting the shots that match my intention. Since then, I've played much better.
Q. Are you able to stay patient when you're making those sort of changes?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. Considering where I was. I feel like that's the easy part. I think you've only got to see a little bit of progress and you get that confidence pretty quickly. It's just about fine-tuning; it's easy to get sort of lost in one when it's been so poor.
So I think that was the big thing for me was just making sure everything else was where it needed to be and hopefully when the time came, the approach play performed as I needed.
Q. 63 for your second round here at the Genesis Scottish Open. When your scored suggest it was a little bit already more forgiving with the wind.
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, definitely. There wasn't any wind, I would say, for the first 15 holes of our round. That's always a real advantage, particularly in links golf. But with that, you've got to take advantage of that and felt like I did.
Q. There are still some intricacies out there and the fairways are very hard and running out and maybe the greens are a little slower than what you're used to.
MATT FITZPATRICK: Yeah, of course, they are not. We are used to playing 12 to 13 on the Stimp over in the States and a lot of the majors now and obviously links golf is always a bit slower. If you had that over here, it would be carnage on some of the sloping greens.
The greens are a good speed and it's nice to be able to give them a hit, and obviously with the wind, as well, you've got to factor that in. So it makes it tricky.
Q. Your stock has been trending in the right direction for some time now. At the start of season, not what we are used to seeing with respect to the results. What has been the big change for you?
MATT FITZPATRICK: Just hitting my irons much better. That was the big thing that I was really struggling. If you're not giving yourself birdie opportunities, it's hard to climb up the leaderboard. I feel like since I've been here, that's better, and combined with, I feel like I'm a half-decent putter and can give myself plenty of chances and make the putts, you're going to be able to shoot some good scores.
