Quick Quotes
Q. Okay, here with Grace Kim after her first round at the Amundi Evian Championship. Quite the day for you. Could you just talk a little bit about the first round here?
GRACE KIM: Yeah, I mean, I didn't really do much wrong. If I did, my short game really backed it.
So, yeah, holed out a bunker shot on 2. Went long and I was like oh, God, miss, and then holed the bunker shot.
Then, yeah, had a few hard up and downs, but the majority of the time I was fairways and greens and, yeah, holed a few putts out there.
Q. And how did you prepare for this week? Was there anything specific you did, especially this week and then for the AIG Women's Open coming up, just a tough stretch of golf?
GRACE KIM: I went home. Home-home to Sydney. So that was a good reset of the mind, being able to sleep in my own bed and see my coach and family back at home.
So I think just the mental reset halfway through the season, and obviously there is a lot more to go, so, yeah, just did that.
Played a couple money matches back at home as well so that probably helped.
Q. I believe this is your first round in the 60s here in this event. What does that mean to put a round like that together, especially in the first round?
GRACE KIM: I mean, I've definitely made a few bogeys and doubles out here before, so knowing that it can happen, yeah, pretty happy with my score today, bogey-free.
So hopefully we just keep that trend going, but also accept it can happen because it's a really tough track.
Q. And another interesting storyline of the day is your pants. Can you talk about your pants a little bit and what happened with them?
GRACE KIM: Yeah, so 7 I just was just going to the bathroom like normal and then my fly wouldn't come back up. So I had 6-under with a busted fly.
Q. Does it in a weird way take your mind off trying to get a 6-under in the house that you're just trying to make sure you don't embarrass yourself?
GRACE KIM: Yeah, pretty much. I hit the green and I like didn't even really appreciate that I hit the green in two on a par-5, and then, yeah, made two putt birdie. I was too birdie worried about my fly.
I guess maybe not happen often but, yeah, it was a great, interesting experience.
Q. You seem like you're a player that can laugh at yourself a little bit and have a little bit of fun with things like that. Do you think that's an advantage at all, that you don't take yourself so seriously?
GRACE KIM: I mean, I can definitely take myself seriously. Times like this I think it's a blessing in disguise so I'll take it for sure for a day like today.
Q. How do you build? Such a strong start here. I know this golf course can be tricky; can get trickier as the week goes on.
GRACE KIM: Yeah, I think this is a great spot and a good confidence booster going into the next few rounds.
Yeah, knowing that I've done what, 6-under today, especially with the weather. Like it was great and perfect, but whatever comes, I know I've done the 6-under before and hopefully I can card in a few more.
Q. I know this golf course, the Aussie history here, and now and you and Gabi are tied at the top there at 6-under, what is it about the Aussies that you guys can figure this kind of golf course out?
GRACE KIM: I think we're all pretty self-sufficient in the sense we don't always need to hit off like firm, flat grounds. We know how to work different lies and different, yeah, angles and wind directions. Obviously it's quite tight off the tees on some holes, so I think we're pretty patient in a sense with that.
But at the same time, we're very skillful, so, yeah, I guess come at us. (Laughter.)
