Quick Quotes
Q. Cara, your debut round here at the Amundi Evian Championship, and, wow, what a start; 3-under par. Tell us about your day.
CARA GAINER: Yeah, obviously such a great start. Super happy with the day. Played really, really nice all day. Barely missed a fairway, so that's obviously really important round this golf course.
So lots of fairways, hits loads of greens, and rolled in a few nice putts as well. Unfortunately bogeyed the 18th hole. Just slightly misjudged the wind with the approach shot.
That kind of thing happens round here and you just have to accept it and move on.
Q. You're out there in the first group today, playing alongside your compatriot Alice Hewson. How nice was that and how did that help calm your nerves?
CARA GAINER: Yeah, I was pretty nervous on the first tee. It's such a tight golf course as well, so you really need to be on your game. I thought, just try and keep it straight. It was nice to have Alice there. I know her well, for a long time, so it's nice to be together.
Yeah, first tee time I thought was pretty rough, but actually it was quite nice out there on your own, sunrise, and it was, yeah, really nice, really enjoyable.
Q. Generally your experience here at Evian. I know you played Jabra. How are you finding the whole experience?
CARA GAINER: Yeah, I love Jabra, love this golf course. Had a good result at Jabra, so sort of trying to take the confidence from playing well on this golf course already before. It's set up a touch different but I'd say a lot of is quite similar.
So I'm trying to take the confidence I had from that week into this week and not think too much about it's a major championship. Have played the British Open before, so at least not my first major. Sort of the calmed the nerves I guess.
Q. On today's rounds, rolling in some lovely putts. Would you say that was the best part of your game today?
CARA GAINER: Probably not. I actually missed a few putts the beginning of the round. Sort of 10-, 15-footer which kind of were makable. I think I was nervous on the greens to begin with, and then I settled in and got the lines right. Got some good pace on them.
Yeah, I would say probably my tee shots I was pretty much on every fairway today, which is so important. I can't be in the rough, especially with the injuries that I have. It's good to keep it in the short stuff.
Q. In the first group, so you've got a lovely bit of time now this afternoon and you're in a great position, so what are you going to get up to this afternoon?
CARA GAINER: We were probably thinking potentially going on the boat over to Lausanne just to get on the lake. The weather is so nice. Try and get a view of Lake Geneva. Yeah, other than that, maybe go an a little run-in afternoon and just relax. Yeah, enjoy shooting a 68 I guess for the first time.
