U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN

July 9, 2025

Amanda Cunha

Rockville, Maryland, USA

Woodmont Country Club (South Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Amanda Cunha, you shot 75 today. Congrats on the great playing and obviously I think if your score holds up winning your category?

AMANDA CUNHA: Yep.

Q. What does that mean to you?

AMANDA CUNHA: It's awesome. I really just worked so hard to be able to get to where I'm at. To have that be reflected on the course today at such an amazing and challenging course is awesome.

Q. Is this your first Adaptive?

AMANDA CUNHA: Nope, this is my fourth.

Q. So you played in all four?

AMANDA CUNHA: Yes.

Q. Talk about your experience overall in the championship over the course of the years and this week specifically.

AMANDA CUNHA: Yeah, it's always an event I love coming back to. I have so many great friends that I see here every year. And just the publicity and the light that we're able to shine on everyone's stories is always so -- we're able to get exposure out there in way we're not able to in any other type of event.

That's what the USGA is trying to hopefully get there, is to bring more light to these stories.

Q. Talk about how your game has evolved over the course of the years and specifically from Sand Creek Station to this year.

AMANDA CUNHA: Yeah, I think definitely Sand Creek Station he was a bit more timid and wasn't too confident in my game. I think on the last day was the first time that I shot below par in a tournament round ever, so I think that gave me the confidence to just know that I can play that and kind of just not be scared, just hit well.

Q. Yeah. How did your preparation maybe change coming into this week versus previous years with that added confidence?

AMANDA CUNHA: I definitely adjusted that so I can play more days without being either tired or getting my hands sore or anything like that, as every golfer tries not to.

For this tournament specifically I just worked on consistency and with my coaches just trying to make sure that we didn't have as many like discrepancies leaking right or left.

Q. This is the first year that the Adaptive Open is broadcast live on Golf Channel. Talk about what that means.

AMANDA CUNHA: It's honestly so special to have it be live broadcasted. There are some people who are at home who may have a disability and they don't come out to events or go out to golf courses on their own because they don't know about it.

So having this be live broadcasted means those people who enjoy golf and like to watch it, watch the pros play, can see that there is an adaptive event and that may encourage them to want to try to get out to their local driving range and try it out.

I think that's what this event truly is about, getting people who are maybe at home out on the golf course, or any sport for that matter out on the golf course.

Q. And lastly, can you talk about what's next on your schedule, whether it's this summer or when you go back to school?

AMANDA CUNHA: I have two tournaments in Toronto that I'm playing in for Vision World and then another one. But two tournaments in Toronto, and from Toronto I'm going straight from Toronto to England for a couple of weeks. I'm doing two adaptive golf clinics there. This is all through the R&A Foundation. I'm in their scholarship and mentorship program.

So they assigned me a mentor and I have connected really well with him. He is a member of two golf clubs just south of London and east, so we're going out there to encourage kids in those areas to learn to play golf.

Then after those two weeks I'm going up to Scotland at St Andrews for a week. They're doing a scholars week for all of the participants of the scholarship -- recipients, I'm sorry.

So basically we're doing leadership seminars and networking events and just getting us used to the golf industry as a whole.

Q. Is that going to be the first time you participate in that event?

AMANDA CUNHA: Yes, this is the inaugural cohort of the scholarship program.
