U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN

July 7, 2025

Brendan Lawlor

Rockville, Maryland, USA

Woodmont Country Club (South Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Yeah, pretty solid round. 4-under I believe.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah, minus-4 today.

Q. Minus-4, so put yourself in a good position moving into the next couple days. Talk about the round and the golf course.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah, the place is absolutely stunning. One of the nicest courses I played probably ever. The greens are fast. Fairways are pretty wide open so you can really knock it out there.

Yeah, I played solid. Made some early birdies. Was minus-3 after 9 and I think I birdied 7 to go to minus-4 and was bogey-free, which is always nice. Just a steady round.

Q. Can you talk a little bit about the course? Hopefully you noticed this, but the course has been adapted a little bit for the adaptive game.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yes.

Q. You can get up close to the greens. Some of the tee boxes are in the middle of the fairways. Did you notice that, and what did you think of that?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah, I think this is an event for everybody, and to make them sort of changes, it if it helps these guys get around the golf course and play some good golf and just be out here, I think it's super important.

It's one of the most inclusive events I've been in. It's a big field. A lot of guys with various disabilities, and it's great to see. I'm thrilled to be here. This is my second year here, so hopefully I'm going to be back here again.

Q. I don't know if you have seen the scoreboard. Did you?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah.

Q. Your Buddy Kipp shot 11-under. What do you think about that?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: It's absolutely sick. I turn around to my caddie and I played steady, probably left a few out there, but 11-under I did not see.

Q. He said it was the best round of golf he played.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah. Don't see Bryson shooting that out there today.

It was nuts. Fair play to him. Has to go out and do it again, which is always tough. It's hard to repeat something like that two days in a row.

I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and just creep up the leaderboard.

Q. We know you'll be on his tail.

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Yeah, 100%.

Q. I was talking to Kipp about your relationship with him. What do you like about him as a guy and a player?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: He's a really good guy. I had my stag, which is a bachelor party, a couple weeks ago and he was on it. Me and him are great friends, and I think rivalry in sport is fantastic. You can probably call it the Tiger and Phil in disability golf.

But if anyone shoots a score like that, you just have to appreciate it and be like fair to you, because it's unbelievable.

Q. Where was the stag party?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: We went to Liverpool in England. Yeah, it was good night out, good two nights.

Q. What did you think it is about UK-Irish golfers who are able to come play these events and dominate the top of the leaderboard really?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: I think European golfers can travel their game really anywhere. We play tight courses at home, so when we get out here looks like a runway. It's quite wide open.

But I think also the conditions are very tough. You have wind, rain. There is not one day you'll go out and there is a calm day.

There is not a breath of wind out here today, so it's kind of target practice somewhat. It's so nice to play events like this ever now and again where you can just try and hit it as close as you can and don't have to take into factor the wind.

But definitely the greens out here are more challenging than they are at home. A lot more undulating and stuff. It's fun. Looking forward to it.

Q. Were you a links golfer growing up?

BRENDAN LAWLOR: Not really. I lived beside a links course. Probably play it every couple of weeks. I am more parkland. I play a parkland course at home. Links is kind of bred into you when you're young in Ireland, hitting a 7-iron from 110 yards or from 210 yards, just one of them things.

But, no, it's great to be here. Place is in immaculate condition. I'm looking forward to the rest of the week.
