Quick Quotes
Q. Beau, a lot of guys getting off to really fast starts this morning. Totally gettable, is it, the golf course?
BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah. I don't know how much rain we got last night but had to be close to an inch. The greens are really soft. You're going to see some really low scores today.
Different wind direction; a little bit more from the north than we've had, so the par-5s are not playing quite as short. They all kind of go in the same direction, so you'll so see some longer clubs into the par-5s.
But most of the holes on the back nine are playing either cross or downwind, whereas the rest of the week it's been kind of into the wind. Bit of a challenge on the back nine.
Like you said, guys are going to tear it up today.
Q. Knowing that you could go really low and not be near the lead by the time the afternoon is over, is it just about getting up as high as you can?
BEAU HOSSLER: Just like any another week, just try and shoot the lowest score you can every single day and it is what it is.
Q. Good to know that you made a dent at least in the FedExCup order a little bit?
BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah, I mean, I don't even know where I'll end up finishing. I'm certainly happy with the day today. Any time you can shoot a low number on Sunday, hopefully ride a bit of momentum for the rest of the season.
Q. Do you look back at your scorecard and lament the two bogeys that you had out there?
BEAU HOSSLER: Of course, but I think I did some really special things today, too. I drove it on a par-4 and made a 40-footer for eagle.
The next hole I hit it eight miles to the right off the tee and somehow judged 185-yard 8-iron perfectly and made birdie there.
So I stole a lot of shots. I gave a lot of shots back today and the rest of the week, just like every other player in the field.
So it's golf. It's hard. If you're going to get caught up on the bad things and not give yourself credit for the good ones, it's going to be a long career. Trying to have a little bit of perspective to enjoy the good stuff and hopefully not let the bad stuff bother me as much. That is certainly something I'm working on.
Q. When you got it going out there this morning, were you thinking anything about posting a number even like a 59? Were you thinking 59 or just play golf and see where it ends up?
BEAU HOSSLER: No, I was 3-under par through eight holes. That's not really 59 watch.
No, listen the course is gettable. If you execute good golf shots the greens are so pure, if you can roll some good putts, you can tear it up. We've all known that all week, and that's why you've seen a fair amount of really low scores.
Yeah, just like I was saying a minute ago, every day I tee off I just try and shoot the lowest score I can. Today fortunately was a bit lower than the other days.
Q. You mentioned the rain on the greens. Did the rain at all affect the roll on the fairways, and did the course -- how did the course play differently today from tee to green?
BEAU HOSSLER: Yeah, that's a good question. It's kind of a Catch 22. You think rain in the fairways makes the course play longer, which is does. But at the same time, it makes the fairways play wider because balls aren't running through the fairway.
So net-net it's probably a wash. This isn't a particularly long course, so I would say the off chance that one or two more balls stays in the fairway is probably -- maybe makes it a bit easier. At the same time, when it gets firm and you get it in the fairway it gets way down there.
Like I said, it kind of depends on how many you're hitting near the edge.
Q. What do you do this afternoon in this situation? You posted; guys still out there. You figure they're going to leap-frog you?
BEAU HOSSLER: Oh, yeah. I have no chance. I'm going go eat some lunch in the clubhouse, pack my stuff, get a coffee from 392 Cafe, which is my favorite coffee spot in town, and then get on a flight.
Q. So you are in the Scottish?
BEAU HOSSLER: No. I'm going to Louisville.
