U.S. ADAPTIVE OPEN

July 6, 2025

Cassie Sengul

Rockville, Maryland, USA

Woodmont Country Club (South Course)

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: Okay, we're with Cassie Sengul. You're hitting the first tee shot tomorrow morning. How special is that going to be?

CASSIE SENGUL: It's really special just being from this area and being the first tee shot. It's just really special to me. I usually am one of the last, so it's really cool to be the start of it all.

Q. You just mentioned you grew up less that an hour away in Manassas, Virginia. You are pretty familiar with Woodmont. You played here a bunch outside of even your practice rounds this week. Do you think that gives you a bit of an advantage out there?

CASSIE SENGUL: Yeah, just seeing the course and how it plays in different conditions I think has really helped me, and knowing there will be probably rain in the forecast and preparing for the scenarios out there today.

Q. Can you tell us just a little bit about growing up with cerebral palsy. You've spoken about this a little bit in the past. You told me your doctors wanted you to stay active, but maybe golf wasn't your first sport of choice; is that true?

CASSIE SENGUL: Yeah. So I tried about every sport growing up. Played soccer for a while, swimming, horseback riding, softball even, but I could never really excel because I could never keep up with my teammates.

That's when I switched to golf. It was still active, but I was actually able to hit the ball as far as my opponents and really keep up with them score-wise, and that's what started it all.

Q. And here we are.

CASSIE SENGUL: Yeah.

Q. You played your debut at last year's U.S. Adaptive Open. Second year coming into Woodmont. What was that experience like last year and how will you take those learnings into this year?

CASSIE SENGUL: Yeah, so that was my first adaptive tournament, so it was really and special and I felt like new to it. So really just knowing all the people I am surrounded with this year and realizing it's more about a community winning, not just a single person.

THE MODERATOR: That's fantastic. Thank you for the time, Cassie, and great luck this week.

CASSIE SENGUL: Yes, of course. Thank you.
