Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Steve Flesch after the fourth round of the U.S. Senior Open. Great start today, 3-under after five. Just talk about how that flow went to start the round.
STEVE FLESCH: Yeah, I made a couple nice putts, hit a couple great shots. On the 5th hole, I just flat chunked a 56-degree wedge from 105 yards. It's funny because I did it twice on that hole this week, I don't know why. Anyway, made bogey there, which is a bad bogey.
Then had some opportunities the rest of the day, but then I misread one putt. I think it was on 12. I misread my second putt, which was four feet. Then I just hit a bad putt on 13 from three feet for par, and those were the two bogeys.
I didn't hit close enough to the hole. That's the bottom line. On these greens, if you're not inside 20, 30 feet, you're fighting it. Played good, though. Played good all week. Scrambled well. Proud of the way I played.
Q. How much does a bogey like that after 3-under after 5 deflate you mentally on a course knowing this course and the back nine coming up?
STEVE FLESCH: The back nine's brutal. It's just deflating because I'm thinking hit it inside 10 feet again, have another birdie opportunity. That's just kind of like running right into a wall, so to speak.
I hit a lot of good shots. I had a lot of good chances. Just didn't make enough birdies this week.
Q. Overall thoughts on the course for this week?
STEVE FLESCH: I love the course. A couple of the pins are a little dicey, as usual, which you would expect in any U.S. Open, but you just -- course played beautifully with all the rain we had. It firmed up nicely today. Ball was running out nice. Greens were perfect. It was just hard to get it close to the hole.
