U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 29, 2025

Padraig Harrington

Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

The Broadmoor (East Course)

TV

Q. We joked about it this week a little bit, but it would figure that a man with an accounting degree would come out on top here because of all the calculations that were necessary. Can you reflect for a moment how difficult a test this was this week?

PADRAIG HARRINGTON: Yeah, look, there is a lot going on, but you leave that to your caddie. You decide at the start the week what sort of percentage you're going to use, uphill, downhill. Obviously the greens are unbelievably difficult and you have to be precise, so there is a lot of the pressure.

I think ultimately whatever number you pick you just got to commit to it and be confident and go with it and accept the odd few mistakes during the week.

You'll probably find I made the least of them, or got the least of the bad breaks, but that's golf, isn't it? You got to get the good breaks at the right times and maybe hit the right shots sometimes at the right time.

Q. When we spoke on Thursday one of the things you said was playing with Stewart Cink was your happy pairing. How much did that contribute to putting you at ease? It was a collegial pairing for you all four days.

PADRAIG HARRINGTON: Yeah, as Stewart said himself, I think we played the most in terms of anybody else. Obviously in 2007 I played with Stewart when I won my first major. Yeah, he's very comfortable to play with. We have very similar games. Very easygoing.

I would say for 63 holes we talked a lot and for the last nine holes things were a little quieter. It was always in good spirit. Mark Hensby was excellent as well. So those are the breaks you need when you're out there winning.

Got to have a nice comfortable group.
