U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 27, 2025

Mark Hensby

Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

The Broadmoor (East Course)

Quick Quotes

THE MODERATOR: 3-under 67, Mark Hensby. Birdie-birdie finish there. Talk us through that kind of unfortunate bounce on your second to last hole on the green there, when it hit the other ball.

MARK HENSBY: Yeah, I didn't see it obviously from where we were, but I think it helped it stop it from going off the green. It was a good break.

Q. Then you made a good putt there?

MARK HENSBY: Yeah, I was fortunate I saw Doug's so I had a bit of a good read on it. But you never know, even with two feet to go, whether it goes in or not.

Q. How do you feel about how your day went?

MARK HENSBY: I played really well the back nine and then got off to a good start on the front nine again. Then got a little scratchy.

But changing some things in my swing, it seems like it just disappears at certain times. But overall I played pretty solid today.

Q. You mentioned changing some things in your swing. Anything different you felt like you did mechanically as far as that?

MARK HENSBY: Yeah, I just tend to pick the club straight up and outside the line. Then obviously when I got it flatter it feels better. Then once in a while when you're in an unusual position at the top that you're not comfortable with, then it changes impact, and sometimes it gets out of whack there.

But making a lot of birdies, so that's a good thing around here.

Q. You mentioned yesterday a little frustration, just feeling like you're a little hot and cold at times. Did you feel a little bit more consistent today? How did that go for you?

MARK HENSBY: Yeah, I was frustrated yesterday more with what was going on out there than my game, especially the back nine. There was a lot of disturbances and I didn't want to bring that up because I didn't play well the back nine, but there was a lot going on yesterday afternoon when I was playing well.

But no, definitely played more steady today than I did yesterday, that's for sure.

Q. What was going on out there?

MARK HENSBY: Well, the TV guys kept running up on me when I'm over my shot, and when I'm a fast player, which I am, it's like, I'm ready to go and then I have to back off because they ran to stick that mic pretty close.

And that happened three times. Yeah, that got a bit frustrating when my caddie had to keep telling them to stop it. But as I said, today we told them from the get-go, stand aside, and it was fine.

Q. You mentioned some of the club selection on the back nine yesterday. Did you change that up at all, and do you think that you can take some of what you did today -- I've heard from a lot of golfers that are like, the slate is wiped clean on a daily basis here. Do you think there's anything you can take from today into tomorrow?

MARK HENSBY: Not really because the pin positions really dictate so much. I don't think I fired at a flag on the back nine today, which was my first nine. I was just trying get it to spots where I was comfortable two-putting or trying to two-putt from. Obviously that's hard to do around here.

But I think the pin positions dictate everything, what you're going to do for the rest of this tournament. No, just go in and try and get ready. The biggest thing is being committed to what you're doing.

But in saying that, it's difficult if you're not hitting fairways here to judge how it's coming out, especially with the air being thin, and yeah, that caught up with me a little bit on my second nine today.
