U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 27, 2025

Ernie Els

Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

The Broadmoor (East Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Talk about quick start, birdieing 3 of the first 5 holes.

ERNIE ELS: That was excellent. It was exactly what I needed. I had a big putt on 5 for birdie. Then I didn't capitalize. I made soft bogeys and played pretty poorly from then on.

Made a birdie on 16 with a great tee shot. But I'm still in there with an outside chance, but the start was really nice.

Q. Talk about the delay. Did that affect you at all? Did the course change at all with the rain?

ERNIE ELS: No, but just the whole thing, it was a bit rushed. They took us off the course for an hour and then give us a text message to be in position in seven minutes while the other half of the draw is getting time to hit balls. So put that in the equation. It was a little weird.

It cost Retief, playing the last hole dead cold. We weren't in any rhythm. But now the course is still the same. It's pretty soft unfortunately. I'd like to see it a bit firmer.
