Quick Quotes
Q. Here with Pauline and Manon after the second round of the Dow Championship. Take us through the round today. Best ball. What worked well for you guys?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think we completed each other really well. Showed up when we had down time. Overall, it was fun. I was butchering some songs and singing, keeping it very light. Keeping it light and showing up for each other. We had a lot of fun.
MANON De ROEY: I was looking forward to this week. First time playing this event. Having Pauline as my partner, so much fun on the course today. I don't think there was ever a dull moment.
Q. Your first time at Midland Country Club. Pauline, I believe you played here before. What have you made of the course and how does it bring out some of your strengths?
MANON De ROEY: Yeah, when I first played a practice round on Monday, I thought you can play this very aggressive or very safe. In this format you just have to go for everything. We're both aggressive players, so I think that confidently helped.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: We were definitely fiery out there. It also helped that I knew the course very well. I'll be honest, after last week it was really nice to have a little less work to do, a little more relaxed. It's a golf course that I love. I love the people here, the crowds; our host is just phenomenal.
It's just a good vibe type of week, and we just soak that in and take it all in.
Q. Take us through the partnership selection. How did you guys come to be? What's the team name, and how did you come up with the team name?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: Team Europe.
MANON De ROEY: How did we?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: ChatGPT.
MANON De ROEY: Yeah, the team name, but we both got our card on LPGA and so she asked me if I wanted to play a team event, and I was like, yeah, let's do it. So I was very excited.
Then the team names, we had another name in the beginning. We were Double Trouble, but we heard that someone else took that name, so we came up with some other names.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: So we have a main one, which is the Good, the Bad, the Buttery. Then we also have a second one that we also like which is Inglorious Custards.
MANON De ROEY: Both our countries, we use a lot of butter.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: We love pastries.
Q. Really high scoring -- low scoring round for your foursome. Obviously capping it up with the chip-in on 18. How much does that give you some momentum as you head into tomorrow?
MANON De ROEY: I told her, I haven't seen your chip-in yet. Let's go.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I was a little mad after 17 because I left a birdie putt short, and I just hate that. I used that momentum to just get a bit fiery on that 18th hole and show off for the crowd. That was pretty fun. Bringing good vibes into the weekend.
MANON De ROEY: Exactly.
Q. This tournament itself is super unique. How much do you guys enjoy just being able to be in a tournament like this?
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: I think there should be more of them.
MANON De ROEY: We're so used to playing European championships and stuff. We love like playing as a team. So I think this event is -- I mean, it's bringing a lot of memories back from European championships, I think.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: It brings us back when we were playing the European team and foursome. Yeah, that team format that we actually miss because it's a lot of individual tournaments and the team ones are very hard to get in. I think this week is the one we kind of look forward to the most because you can just team up with whatever country and literally play with your friend and just shoot low ones.
Q. You had a great competition with you guys on the course and the other group going neck and neck with you guys the whole time. How did that push you throughout the course today?
MANON De ROEY: I feel like -- I didn't want to, like keep you down. Also like having Sarah and Albane playing really good as well, I think that helped us too.
PAULINE ROUSSIN-BOUCHARD: Definitely. It was such a good dynamic because obviously I know Sarah from South Carolina. She's also a Gamecock. And then I've played with Albane that same format back in Europe when we were younger, the Vagliano Trophy. It was just good atmosphere. Seeing someone make birdie just gives the dynamic for the next hole.
You just see scores going low and getting to double digits, it's like a train that you just hop on.
