Mikael Lundberg

Rick Wynn

Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

The Broadmoor (East Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Tell me about your journey. You're in Sweden --

MIKAEL LUNDBERG: No, I live in Spain actually. Yeah, I never thought -- I got an e-mail a couple of days ago, and I was like third reserve, and I thought there's no chance. I was just in the afternoon with the family laying by the pool, and then I saw an e-mail, please call us back.

So I called, and I thought they're just going to tell me that I'm fourth reserve and I have no intention of going. They said, no, you're actually in. Do you want to come? I said, well, I'd better check some flights and see if I can. The only flight I could find, it was yesterday, 3:00 from Barcelona then via Chicago and then to here.

My last flight was also 2 1/2 hours delayed. So I actually showed up here quarter past 12:00 to the hotel. That was just tried to get a few hours of sleep, and then of course with the jet lag, I still woke up at 4:00, which was fine until then.

I did okay until the back nine, and then I could really feel it. Now it's middle of the night at home. I got so tired. It's a shame because same thing, I have never seen the course, never seen the greens, it's a bit tricky.

Q. Without knowing, what did you rely on? Did you get some advice on the mountain?

MIKAEL LUNDBERG: No, I played all right the front nine even though I missed a few shorter putts. I still did okay. I was 1-over. Then I went into the wall, and then confidence went down a bit. Then you're trying to get it back, but you can't really force anything when you're that tired and stuff. Just ended up poorly. Hopefully we can do better tomorrow.

Q. Every hole was a stranger to you?

MIKAEL LUNDBERG: Yeah, it is. I had to ask my caddie, hey, where are we going? What direction are we hitting?

RICK WYNN: Where does the green go?

MIKAEL LUNDBERG: Yeah.

Q. How did you help him?

RICK WYNN: I just tried to keep him relaxed. I knew he was going to be tired. He was just hitting it to different pockets on the greens and above the pin with the false fronts; he did great. Birdied 1 and 18, so bookends there. He knocked it on par-5 in two, and the putt was super quick. It went down and broke, what you saw. But he had a great putt. It went pretty quick, but the mountain got him.

Q. You're going to get some sleep tonight, are you?

MIKAEL LUNDBERG: I'm not going to stay up long today. I'm going to be out soon. I'll probably wake up at 4:00 tomorrow morning anyway, which is okay when you play early.

Q. Rick Wynn, where are you from?

RICK WYNN: I live in San Diego.

Q. Is this a normal situation for you?

RICK WYNN: I'm usually at most of the Opens in case some caddies don't get in or alternates get in and they don't have somebody. I've been doing that the last few years with the performance team. I've been trying to get him in to get a massage or hyperbaric massage to help him recover.

I work as a liaison most of the time. I worked with Mr. Furyk last year. It was good. He got a hip replacement. I'm sure Fluff will be back with him when he gets to playing at Flint. I'll find something, and it will be good.

Q. Did you know the Broadmoor had...

RICK WYNN: I went out yesterday with Omar Uresti, and all I did was chart the greens of where he could hit it. You've got three pockets on this green, and I didn't care about anything else because pin placements are irrelevant.
