U.S. SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

June 26, 2025

Hailey Schalk

Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

The Broadmoor (East Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. How was round 1 at the U.S. Senior Open with your dad?

HAILEY SCHALK: It was so fun. The front nine was so fun. Even on the first tee, I felt like I was going to crap my pants a little bit, like how nervous I was for him, especially with friends and family and there's so many people here. But it was great. It was so fun.

Back nine is tricky. So we had a little bit of a harder time on the back. But overall really fun. I love golfing with my dad and caddying.

Q. Do you feel any guilt or pressure when he misses a putt or misses a shot?

HAILEY SCHALK: Yes. Yes. Every time I'm like, please, please. Like I couldn't even watch him hit some of the putts today, some of the short putts because I'll read them. He's like, you like that? You think that's the read? I'm like, yep. Then he'll set up and I'm like, please be correct, because if it's not correct, then I feel guilty the rest of the round. But definitely.

Q. Your dad gets so emotional whenever he talks about getting to take part in this game with you by his side. What are the emotions like for you when you get to be Daddy's little girl and help him achieve some of these dreams?

HAILEY SCHALK: It's awesome. It's definitely a different dynamic having him on the bag for me versus me on the bag for him. Like he was saying, he's super fiery, I'm very calm. It's awesome, but I think we balance each other out really well, so it's cool to watch that dynamic and watch us work together out there.

Q. Do you find any moments where you're aware of lessons that he's taught you when you were growing up playing that you're now trying to instill in him in certain moments?

HAILEY SCHALK: Yeah. I feel like even sometimes maybe necessarily when I wasn't playing my greatest golf, I'd get super mad and he'll fiery and I was doing the same things, and the things he would tell me are similar to what I would say to him about, relax, just think about the next shot, it's okay, all these things. We're repeating each other.

But in the moment, I'm like, stop talking, it's going through one ear and out the other, and he's probably the same, vice versa. But it's funny to see how that works.

Q. Anything specific today where maybe that jumped in your head?

HAILEY SCHALK: I'm trying to think. It was after -- we bogeyed 10, 11, 12. I don't know which hole it was. It might have been 13. I think it was 13 where he made a longish putt for par and hit not a great iron shot short in the rough. He's like, just had three in a row, he's not very happy, and I'm like, come on, it's okay, you can get up-and-down. I've watched it. You're a great putter. All the things he used to tell me.

Q. Your three state championships and that confidence, what does that bring from here to where you are now?

HAILEY SCHALK: I feel like honestly I learned a lot of that from my dad. I think that he's really, really confident. When I won those tournaments in the past, he was the one kind of in my ear, like, trying to make me fiery. I was a little more fiery back then. I've mellowed out a little bit more.

But yeah, he's always been in my ear, so honestly, I look up to him for that.

Q. What kind of a team are the two of you out there?

HAILEY SCHALK: Honestly, we mesh really well together. I feel like our personalities don't necessarily clash out there. I know how to -- I know what he needs and wants to hear from me or what he doesn't want to hear from me. So I feel like that helps our dynamic. It helps how we go about the round.
