THE MODERATOR: Bob Estes, 2-under. What did you learn about the course today?
BOB ESTES: Yeah, hopefully I learned a little bit more these last couple of days just like I did playing here in 2018. There's so much to this course, especially the greens and around the greens. You can almost never spend enough time learning the greens and where you can hit it and where you can't hit it and things like that.
I think I've got it mapped out fairly well. Hit most of the fairways and hit most of my approaches pretty much where I wanted to. Sometimes a little bit safer towards the center.
I did leave myself some long putts at times, which I thought maybe would have been a little bit closer, but a lot of good two-putts and just one three-putt.
Q. A lot of consistency from you over the years at the U.S. Senior Open. What do you like about the U.S. Open test?
BOB ESTES: Well, I think I like preparation that usually goes into it, as well. You have to be so knowledgeable of the golf course and then have to play with a lot of discipline. With the rough the way it is and the greens being as difficult as they are and with the falloffs in different places, you have to make -- sometimes make sure that you hit it far enough and sometimes you have to make sure you don't go too deep into the green or knock it over the green. I feel like I've got a pretty good grasp on how far I'm hitting the ball at altitude, so that helps quite a bit.
Q. How was the course today after all the rain compared to the last couple days?
BOB ESTES: I think Monday obviously was the firmest it played. I actually didn't play on Monday because I was coming in Monday morning. I did walk nine, but I did get to see some of the guys hitting shots and seeing how firm the fairways were and the greens. But then when I played some on Tuesday morning before it rained heavily, the fairways were very firm, the greens were still very firm.
So now the fairways have softened up a little bit and the greens have some as well, but the greens are still pretty firm. There were still some pretty big bounces into -- first bounces after the ball landed on the green on certain holes.
Q. Did it change much as the day wore on today?
BOB ESTES: Well, what changes the most is as it heats up the ball goes farther. I've got two different sets of numbers in my yardage book, maybe when it's closer to 5 percent and closer to 10 percent in the afternoon when it heats up. We were very aware of kind of how warm it was, or as the day went along and it warmed up and we knew the ball was carrying farther, we did a pretty good job of adjusting to that.
Q. This one is off the beaten path, but do you ever notice or is there anybody that warned you about the chimes that go off here every 15 minutes?
BOB ESTES: Well, you kind of learn that as soon as you get here, so I was definitely putting and hitting a time or two when the chimes were going on, but they sound nice, so I didn't mind.
Q. You guys obviously like things quiet. Do you just not even think about it or do you --
BOB ESTES: Well, that's more when babies are crying and people that are drinking too much are talking too loud. That's when it's a little more bothersome. But chimes aren't too bad.
