Quick Quotes
Q. Tell me about your day. How would you sum up your day?
TODD WHITE: A roller coaster. Started out poorly. Didn't have the speed of the greens down for the first five or six holes. Three three-putts starting out. So you're kind of behind the eight ball. Hit some really good shots into 16 and 17 into about seven feet and nine feet and just didn't capitalize on those, but I was hitting the ball well.
Go over to No. 2, next thing you know make a deuce, make an eagle on par-4, so that was great. Almost made another one on 5 where I hit a 7-iron to about an inch of the hole. I got back to even par. From there, another three-putt was thrown in.
Then on my 18th hole, which was No. 9, didn't hit a good drive. Hit a good layup, but then I made a mental mistake with my third shot there. Should have used the backstop a little bit, but came up short, and you can't do that. There.
Overall, 3-over par. Got an opportunity tomorrow to do some good. Obviously making a mental mistake on the last hole, that kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Again, couldn't ask for a better golf course and a better championship.
Q. Go back to talking about the eagle. Tell me a little bit about that and how it all kind of set up for you. What was the key?
TODD WHITE: Any time you make an eagle on a par-4, there's got to be a little bit of luck involved. I laid back off the tee with a 3-iron and had a little gap wedge in there. Hit behind the hole, and the next thing you know, the people who were there around the green, nice applause, good feeling obviously.
Q. And then the birdie on 5?
TODD WHITE: The birdie on 5, driver and then 7-iron. Like I said, it was an inch behind the hole. People said don't know how that one didn't go in either.
I did hit good shots today; I did not putt well, which I think a lot of people will say that on these greens. I did not putt well. Then the mental mistake on 18, I finished at 3-over par. Again, get the opportunity to go out there tomorrow and see what happens.
Q. Did you get a little rained on?
TODD WHITE: Also a few little pebbles of hail falling over there on No. 8, my 17th hole. I think that's the first time I've ever played with little hail stones falling.
Q. I understand you're a high school teacher and now a coach.
TODD WHITE: I am. I'm a high school history teacher, and I coach the boys and girls golf teams at Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Q. Good way to spend your summer?
TODD WHITE: It's a great way to spend your summer.
