THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 21, 2025

Ethan Fang

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. How are you feeling?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, feels great. Still doesn't feel real yet. But I'm sure it'll kick in, and just celebrate with my team.

Q. Talk to us about the match out there. It was pretty steady like you have been. Is that how you felt heading into lunch?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah. I was hitting it good all day, and I knew if I just stayed in it, some putts would drop, kind of have him work for it, and it ended up working out.

Q. You said you had him work for it, but you had a two-hole advantage and he made you work for it. Were you a bit nervous at that point in the match?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, for sure. He hit two really good shots, and I knew -- it's all tied at the last, anything can happen. I knew if I just birdied I'd get the job done. I tried to stay patient and kind of in my own zone.

Q. You had your good mate Will caddying for you this week. What did he bring to the mix?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, he did a lot. He helped me stay calm. He's one of my good friends. I've known him for a while, and he helps me stay calm. He's just a great caddie, everything you want.

Q. Mom and dad were out here; that must make this extra special to get the win in front of them?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, it does. They've helped me a lot throughout the years, and it's finally good to see me finally win one. I'm just ready to celebrate with them.

Q. You said yesterday that you were taking a look at some of those names that have won this prestigious title. How does it feel to know that you've etched your name in history and you're right there alongside them?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, it feels really good. Putting my name up there, it's something special, and it's an honour.

Q. You're the first American to win this championship in quite some time. And it's a Walker Cup year. Was there any national pride in this win for you?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, for sure. I heard going into the week that an American hasn't won this tournament in ten plus years. Representing your flag, that's what it's all about, and I'm glad we did it for USA.

Q. Looking forward in a month, less than a month, you're going to Portrush. You are teeing it up in the 153th Open Championship. Has that sunk in yet?

ETHAN FANG: No, not really. Not yet. I'm just really excited to have the opportunity to go down there and just see what happens.

Q. We spoke yesterday about not trying to get ahead of yourself and not daring to dream, but you can dream now. What's going through the head?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, a lot of things. The Masters, the Open. I'm just glad it's all done now, and I can just take a second to think about everything I did this week and just kind of enjoy it.

Q. Do you think this is the best golf you've ever played?

ETHAN FANG: Yeah, yeah, it's close. It's probably the most consistent golf I've played in my life. It's a super long tournament, and just feels really good to finally get it done.
