TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

June 20, 2025

Nick Taylor

Cromwell, Connecticut, USA

TPC River Highlands

Quick Quotes

Q. A challenging day out there conditions-wise but solid playing, 68. How did you feel about your play and how it went overall?

NICK TAYLOR: Yeah, I drove it pretty nice. Hit a lot of good iron shots on that first nine when it was probably the trickiest of the conditions. The wind seems to be going down a little bit. But it was just changing directions a bit with gusting. It was just really tricky even with wedge shots.

Did a good job of everything really. Like bogeying the last hole sucks, but it was kind of a tricky hole with that hard off the left with that tree off the tee. Happy with the day.

Q. Overall you've played this course a bunch of different years and conditions. In terms of what you enjoy the most, do you enjoy this type of test the most or not necessarily?

NICK TAYLOR: I haven't had a whole lot of success here for whatever reason. I think sometimes it's a shootout here, which I don't always prefer.

But it was tricky today. I think the weekend is going to be a little less wind, so it's probably going to be some low scores again. With guys at 9, you've got to think at least -- not at least, but probably around 20 is going to win.

Yeah, the birdies are out there, especially when the wind is down. Today was just really tricky with the gusting and then the direction change even as the day went on.

That was probably one of the more difficult conditions I've played in at this golf course particularly, but again, happy to be under par.

Q. Overall your results this spring have been very nice, mostly top 25s. Is there anything that kick-started that? Was there something you tweaked or whatever it may be?

NICK TAYLOR: Not really tweaked. I worked really hard this year on just my driver essentially. Not like testing clubs, just like -- to me, a success for me is being in the fairway, and a good recipe -- Torrey Pines this year was a result that I was not necessarily surprised with, but really long golf course, it was really wet, finished top 10 at Genesis. That was kind of a building block and then kind of a recipe for me to hit it in the fairway, let my iron game take over and have a solid short game.

It's been good. I'm using the same putter, but it's a newer version of it, and it's gray versus red. Just teams to set up a little bit better than it did, so I changed to that for the Masters, so my putting has been consistently pretty solid since then. It was up and down a bit for the last year and a half.

That's been a minor change that seems to be just making me a little bit more consistent on the greens.

Q. Collin Morikawa has been hitting mid to long iron shots without a glove this week. He talked about golfers being crazy and just try random things sometimes. Have you ever played in competition without a glove?

NICK TAYLOR: I saw that. These conditions, the club would fly out of my hands. Either my hands are too sweaty or I'd be too nervous about it.

Yeah, honestly we'll try anything. We'll literally try anything. It's not surprising that somebody has done that. Someone of his caliber I guess I'm probably a little bit surprised.

But it's amazing, we'll mess with something, and if it works on the range, you try it one day, it works, you just let it go, and one day you might catch fire. If he doesn't like it, I'm sure he'll change back next week.

Yeah, we're always tweaking. Doesn't matter what level you're at.

Q. Any of that this week or anything --

NICK TAYLOR: No, I think that's been probably the good thing for me for the last six months is just sticking to my routines, knowing kind of what works and keeps me as good as possible.

When you bounce around a bit for me is when I will get a little inconsistent and maybe start searching a bit. I've been good at doing what I know is best for me.
