Quick Quotes
Q. A very hard-fought victory during the first round of match play here at the Amateur Championship at Royal St George's. It took you 23 holes, but it must feel pretty good to get that done.
TOMMY MORRISON: Yeah, it felt like 40. But it was a good day. I played some nice golf. Luke Sample is a great player and I've known him for a very long time. He's very accomplished amateur golfer, so I knew it was going to be a battle.
I don't think he had his best stuff today, but made a bunch of putts and kept everyone on their toes. Hats off to him for some nice fighting there, too.
Q. You're obviously up with a few holes to play. How did you regather your thoughts and yourself heading into the playoff?
TOMMY MORRISON: Yeah, I think I was 2-up with three to go and just said to myself, make him make birdies; it's not the easiest finish. I did that, and he made birdies.
He hit it to gimme on 16, made about a 10-, 12-footer on 17, and made like a -- I don't even know, 15-, 20- footer on 18 to save par. He fought really hard. I just wanted to keep putting pressure on him, and he made a nice fight there.
Q. How do you sort of reset and recover, head into another day tomorrow?
TOMMY MORRISON: Yeah, it's a quick turnaround. Geez, try and get some treatment right now and get something quick and go to bed. Got a long day tomorrow.
Q. Obviously here at the Amateur Championship, through to the next round. What would it mean to you to be successful coming into the week?
TOMMY MORRISON: Yeah, it's easy to let your mind wander. I'm going to try my hardest not to do that. But the R&A and the Amateur Championship has been really good to me. Royal St George's has been a treat. A couple more rounds of golf out here would be really special.
