THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 17, 2025

Billy Dowling

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. 5-under for the tournament; how do you assess your performance so far?

BILLY DOWLING: I'm quite pleased with myself. I feel like I've hit the ball quite well. I've putted quite well. I've managed my game really well for the two days.

Q. What do you think of Royal St George's? Have you played here before?

BILLY DOWLING: I haven't. This is my first time. I've played quite a few links courses around the country, and this is definitely up there with one of my favourites.

Q. How does this links style course stack up against what you're used to playing back home in Australia?

BILLY DOWLING: Yeah, we don't really have any links back home so this is definitely a good test. I always enjoy a challenge when I'm coming over here to play.

Q. You're obviously here at St. George's and Cinque Ports over the first two days. What are the main differences between the two tracks?

BILLY DOWLING: Well, Cinque Ports kind of goes out and back. This one swirls around, goes everywhere, so you're getting all different wind directions when you come to St. George's. I think that's the main difference. But yeah, they're both a good challenge.

Q. You're looking likely to be comfortable in match play. How do you reset ahead of the match play?

BILLY DOWLING: Yeah, well, I feel like you only have to beat one person when you're playing match play, whereas out here I've got to beat 200 people to make the match play. So just take it one shot at a time, one hole at a time and try my best.

Q. You've been over here for a little while now. How has your form been?

BILLY DOWLING: I've loved it. The weather has been really good. I played here last year and it wasn't so good. When it's like back home, you can't really complain.

Q. You've got a big group of Australians over here. What's it like playing alongside them?

BILLY DOWLING: I love it. I'm so used to seeing heaps of Australians back home, but when you come overseas and play these big ones, I think the camaraderie really shows when you're with each other.
