T. MARIA/A. Anisimova
6-3, 6-4
THE MODERATOR: Hard luck, Amanda, but a great tournament nonetheless. What made Tatjana such a tricky opponent today?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, her game style is really suitable for grass. It was really tough out there for me today playing against her. I guess I just wasn't so prepared. Yeah, I wasn't expecting to be having to run so many balls down. It was a really tough match, but credit to her for playing very well.
THE MODERATOR: Questions.
Q. She obviously plays such a unique style now, the slices off both sides. How difficult is it to play against someone who I guess plays so differently to basically everyone else on tour?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, she definitely slices more than the average player. Just not something you're used to. I mean, most of my matches, I'm not getting a slice after every single ball.
I mean, it's definitely different, but everyone has their own way of playing. Yeah, I mean, it's just something you need to adjust and adapt to.
Q. It was amazing, obviously Tatjana with her two kids on the side and her kind of whole family on tour. As a younger player around, do you find that quite inspirational to see someone who has gone away from the game and started a family twice and come back and just takes the whole family on tour with her?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, for sure. I mean, I said on court it's really special to see her and her whole family and team traveling together.
I'm sure she enjoys it a lot. Off the court, as well. Yeah, it's really tough being away from home, so it's really nice to see her being able to travel with them and also be playing at such a high level.
Yeah, I mean, it's not easy. Yeah, I respect her a lot for that. It's super special to see.
Q. I'm sure it's obviously difficult to reflect so soon after the match, but this has still been a really positive week for you, making a big final. How do you feel about your performances this week? And what are you most pleased with?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I think I was playing some good tennis throughout the week. It's not easy to play on grass for your first tournament. I mean, always trying to adjust and quite a quick turnaround from the clay.
So I feel like I did a good job this week despite losing today. Could have done some things better today, as always, but that's where you learn and try to move forward and keep getting better.
Yeah, I'll definitely take the things that I need to do better after this match and, yeah, figure out what I need to do to improve.
Q. This has been the first women's tournament at Queen's for 52 years. How did you enjoy the experience of playing here?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, it's super special. I was really excited to be playing here. I knew it was going to be a great tournament. It's been a privilege just stepping onto the court there, and to be able to make the final is really nice.
So I'm just really proud of myself and happy with the week I have had. Yeah, as I said, Laura put on a great tournament for us and really made us feel so comfortable throughout the week here.
Yeah, they treat the players very well. Also, it was really nice to see the packed stadiums here.
Q. You said on court that you could see Tatjana getting to the Wimbledon final. She's obviously been on a deep run there before, also kind of in that underdog position. What do you think it is about her game that's so tricky for top players on the grass?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, she hits a lot of unpredictable shots over and over again, and it was really tough for me to play the way I like to play. I mean, that's why I said that. I mean, she also beat Madison yesterday, so, I mean, she's very good on the grass, very difficult to play. I mean, I can see her having a really good run there.
Q. Just following on about it being the first women's tournament here for more than 50 years, how important do you think it is for the visability and platform of women's tennis that it remains a part of the calendar?
AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, I think it's super important. As you can see, I think people have really been enjoying it, as, I mean, there have been packed stadiums for each and every match here so far.
I mean, I feel like the crowd has really enjoyed watching us women play out there. Yeah, I feel like we displayed a lot of good tennis, a lot of good battles out there. I really hope that, you know, they'll keep having us come and compete year after year here.
