WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 15, 2025

Paula Martín Sampedro

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Paula, how good does that feel to be the winner of the 122nd Women's Amateur Championship?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: It honestly doesn't feel real yet. I feel like I played pretty solid golf today, but the match was super tight all the way. I knew it was going to come down to the last few holes, so I stayed patient, and it went my way.

I'm super happy. I think it's going to take a while to just sink in.

Q. Just an incredible match. It was 5-under par for the first 18, and the quality just never let up. How good was it to be a part of that match?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: I think we kind of made history. It honestly could have gone either way. I think I made a bogey in the whole day, so like 35 holes. That's pretty solid.

I feel like with this wind we played some really good quality shots and made some good putts here and there. I feel like we both played great to the level of a final of the Women's Amateur. So I think we both need to be super happy, but I'm definitely super excited to call myself a champion this time.

Q. The putter probably felt like the best in the bag for you?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I feel like my pace was good throughout the whole week, especially in those lag putts. Made some solid up-and-downs coming down the stretch. Yeah, definitely super happy about that.

It's actually the first tournament I'm playing with this putter. I changed my putter like four days before coming here. Definitely going to stay in the bag.

Q. Talk about the pressure coming here as the top ranked player. It doesn't seem to faze you at all.

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: It wasn't something I was thinking about coming into this week. I'm happy to just be here surrounded by great players. I feel like a lot of the top ranked players are out there.

Me, I didn't even know I was the best European coming into this week. Really happy, and this win is definitely really special.

Q. You have some major chances ahead.

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Super excited. I actually played my first one a couple weeks ago in the U.S. Open, and it was a great experience. I'm happy to just have given myself a chance to play more in the coming weeks.

Q. The AIG Women's Open in particular, how excited are you for that?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: It's great to play more links golf at the end of the summer. Hopefully I can get my coach to caddie. He actually won the amateur on Royal Porthcawl. I guess that's just like destiny or coincidence. That's going to be super cool.

Q. How much was your caddie a help here actually?

PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Paula, she's the best. We played against each other unfortunately a couple months ago, but I'm super grateful to have had her by my side these past two matches.

She's definitely been like key, to be honest. I don't think I would have been able to do this without her, just with the shots and giving me a lot of confidence. I'm just really happy and will be grateful for life.
