Quick Quotes
Q. Congratulations. You're into the Women's Amateur Championship final tomorrow. How good does that sound?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I'm really happy. Today was definitely a tough day with the wind and rain, and I got to play one of my best friends in the Spanish team, so that was a little hard, too. But really happy to have made it through and super excited about tomorrow.
Q. How difficult was that? I know you said yesterday if either of you won, you're not really bothered, but I'm sure it was difficult.
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, definitely more difficult than just playing a regular match. But I feel like we had a really good morning, both of us. We played great. It could have gone either way, to be honest.
I was super fortunate to have her on the bag this afternoon, so really, like, grateful for her to be caddying for me.
Q. This afternoon it seemed to be a case of you didn't make many mistakes. Was that a key to it?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I played pretty solid all the way, and having her in between shots to talk about just life and laugh a little bit was definitely key. So yeah, super happy to have her by my side.
Q. The weather was probably better than expected, so you must have been pleased with that.
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, the weather forecast was definitely much more rain than what we got. But it's nice to get a little full links golf experience, so a little bit of rain and wind have to be there, 100 percent.
Q. I think it's your third time in the championship; do you feel the experience of previous years, Princes and Portmarnock has made a difference to you?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, we don't get a lot of chances to play links golf, and I really like it. It's definitely different. And match play is also a really different format. So those combined are really fun, and definitely learning year by year.
Q. You've also come in here as the top ranked European player. Do you feel any extra pressure or are you not bothered by these things?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: I don't think so. I actually didn't know that until yesterday when someone told me. But in this championship everyone plays great and especially in match play, anything can happen. I just try to focus on my own game and play as best as I can.
Q. Long day tomorrow, 36 holes. How do you deal with that challenge?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, so yesterday I played the full 36 and today I almost did, too, so definitely prepared mentally and physically to because it's been a couple of hard days and tomorrow is going to be another one. So yeah, just super excited.
Q. Without looking too far ahead, big prizes on offer tomorrow, also the trophy, but there's some exemptions to a lot of major championships. Are you aware of those and do you think too much about it?
PAULA MARTIN SAMPEDRO: Yeah, I don't think I think a lot about those, but it definitely speaks for itself about the importance of this championship. I played my first major a couple weeks ago, and that was a great experience. So hopefully I can play many more in the future and maybe this is my chance.
