WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 13, 2025

Isla McDonald-O'Brien

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Fantastic performance today. You must be delighted to get to the quarterfinals.

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Yeah, I'm very delighted to get to the quarterfinals.

Q. What was the key to those victories?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: The key was just hitting it in the fairways, avoiding all those bunkers. If you avoid the fairway bunkers, you set yourself up pretty nicely.

Q. Is that something you've learned during the course of this week or did you know Nairn coming into here?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: I didn't know Nairn coming into here, and then my first round I went in a few too many bunkers, and then me and my caddie, my dad, decided to revise the plan and I decided to hit driver off most tees, and it worked in my favour.

Q. So are you attacking the course now?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Attacking it. Full attack.

Q. So your dad is on the bag?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: He is indeed, yes.

Q. Has he usually done that for you at amateur events?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: He caddies mainly in this event. He caddied last year, so he's on the bag again this year.

Q. What's his name?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Andy.

Q. How far did you go last year?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: I lost the morning of this event, like today.

Q. This is as far as you've been now?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Yep, in this event, yep.

Q. That was obviously a very tough opponent this morning, the highest ranked player in the field. Is that one of the best wins you've ever had?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Yeah, that is most definitely. Yeah, it's very good.

Q. How did you feel playing somebody like Catherine in the type of form that she's in?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Yeah, I knew she was in great form, and she's an amazing player, but I just had to go full send, just try and make as many birdies. It was tough out there; the conditions were very windy this morning, so it was a bit more par golf, but it was solid golf.

Q. This afternoon, obviously you go the full length --

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Yeah, I started off very strong, and I had a little blip, but then I knew coming down the stretch I like those finishing holes, so it's great.

Q. Tomorrow, what's the game plan tomorrow?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Just full send.

Q. It's live streamed tomorrow across R&A channels, on Sky Sports in the UK. How exciting is that to be playing in front of cameras tomorrow?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: That's so exciting to know that people outside of here can watch it. It's great.

Q. Will you have club members, friends of yours watching?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Oh yeah, my brother will be first on there watching it.

Q. What's your brother's name?

ISLA McDONALD-O'BRIEN: Rory.
