WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 12, 2025

Jasmine Koo

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. No. 1 seed, that's a pretty emphatic statement of intent, 7 & 5. Talk us through a bit of that match.

JASMINE KOO: Yeah, I won my first six holes of the day, so I would say that was a pretty good start. I mean, after that, I was just trying not to stay comfortable. My opponent started playing better, gave herself birdie chances. I kind of just tried to stay in the game, not get ahead of myself. I shot 2-under, two birdies, no bogeys, and it's hard to beat somebody who doesn't make mistakes.

Q. She took a pretty punishing playoff to get in, but it didn't look like she'd been in a long playoff. She played pretty well.

JASMINE KOO: Yeah, she played this morning, had to get up this morning early and she played until 10:45, I think, last night, and that's really tough, to have to do all that and then go up against somebody who's having a good run.

Q. As we said, you obviously topped the qualifying standards. Did you feel teeing off today a little added pressure or did you quite embrace that, as you said, the No. 1 seed?

JASMINE KOO: Yes, I definitely embraced it. I don't think added pressure, I would say. I was telling my caddie, hey, I can't be No. 1 seed and lose in the round of 64. This is really important. So I did have that thought.

But overall, I just treated it like any other round. Tried not to make bogeys.

Q. No bogeys today you said?

JASMINE KOO: Yeah.

Q. That's always going to be good in a match play, isn't it.

JASMINE KOO: Yeah.

Q. Did you come straight over from the Palmer Cup?

JASMINE KOO: Yes, I did.

Q. What time did you get here?

JASMINE KOO: I got here afternoon of the practice round. My clubs actually didn't make it. Played seven holes of the practice round, and the first day I played the first 12 holes blind. But I have a great caddie.

Q. What's his name?

JASMINE KOO: Finley.

Q. Just a Nairn lad, is he?

JASMINE KOO: Yeah, he's a great golfer. He's played here since he was seven, so he knows his way around the course.

Q. Have your clubs arrived now?

JASMINE KOO: Yeah.

Q. When did they come?

JASMINE KOO: During the practice rounds.

Q. You're finding clubs on airplanes always disappear, don't they?

JASMINE KOO: No shame, but I've heard London Heathrow has a bit of trouble with lost baggage.

Q. But travelling around is par for the course as a golfer; going from America to here, you're not showing any kind of effects of the journey or anything like that?

JASMINE KOO: The first two days I was falling asleep at like 7:00, but I'm getting used to it. I had a great morning this morning. I woke up at 6:20, two minutes before my alarm actually. It's just great. I think I'm used to it. The weather is perfect, which I heard is not the case, but having a good time.

Q. Your match play record obviously, you've won the Western Amateur, you've had Junior Solheim Cups, Curtis Cups. What is it about the match play format that you revel in, and does it suit your aggressive style maybe?

JASMINE KOO: Yeah, it's definitely an aggressive style, and I think I'm more free when I do match play, as in I'm not burdened by oh, my gosh I'm 5-under. I'm not burdened by that. I'm just trying to win every hole, and if I feel good, there's no telling how low I can go.
