WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 12, 2025

Mannat Brar

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Well, a solid start to the match play, 5 & 4. Just talk us through how that match developed.

MANNAT BRAR: I started off good. I made three birdies in a row in the first three holes, so I knew I was doing well, and that momentum kind of continued through the entire round. A lot of positive thinking, and that was the round.

Q. Any of those putts in the first three holes that stood out?

MANNAT BRAR: I think the first hole. I think the first birdie you make on the first hole is obviously always special. It was like a 15-footer left to right, so that gave me a lot of confidence.

Q. That kind of sets the tone for the day if you're seeing putts go in.

MANNAT BRAR: Yeah.

Q. Has that been a strong part of your game so far this week?

MANNAT BRAR: I do love short game. I love chipping and putting. I enjoy it. So yes, pretty strong.

Q. It's your third appearance in the Women's Amateur. You've never been to the match play. Possibly the first Indian golfer to get to this stage. It's another step in your career progression?

MANNAT BRAR: Yeah, definitely. Every time I'm here, I'm learning more about the links, and it's just so fun playing this event. It's just getting better each year.

Q. Obviously last year semifinals of the Girls Amateur Championship. How much of a confidence boost did that give you?

MANNAT BRAR: Definitely a lot, playing at such a big event and doing well and being the first Indian to do well in it is obviously very special. That was a very positive thing to happen.

Q. There's good Indian golfers doing good stuff, but do you enjoy being a kind of trailblazer in some senses in the amateur game?

MANNAT BRAR: Sure, but I don't think I take it that way. I wouldn't want to mark myself as the Indian golfer. I just want to be a good golfer. I'm just doing me. I'm just playing my game, and let's see where it takes me.

Q. How has your game developed from last year, say the Girls Amateur, that run to the last four? Are there areas you've definitely improved on?

MANNAT BRAR: Definitely. Technique-wise I think I've gotten better. That's one aspect that I keep working on. So I think technique has gotten better, and of course I'm hitting those fades and draws better in the wind now, so I think that's what's really helping in these conditions.

Q. You've been over in Europe playing on the LET access series. A couple of decent performances among the professionals?

MANNAT BRAR: Yeah, it was okay. Definitely learned a lot. I definitely know where I stand among the pros here in Europe, so it was a good experience, lots of learning.

Q. Links golf different to probably the courses you've played in the LET, but you've adapted pretty well?

MANNAT BRAR: Yeah, I just enjoy the links so much. The first time that I played here, the first tournament of course didn't go as well, but I just want it to be so fun. I think this is as close to golf as you can get. I think it's the realest form of golf, and I think that's why I enjoy it so much.

Q. Family affair; mom and dad here to support you and cheer you along?

MANNAT BRAR: Yeah, definitely. My mom is there with the claps.
