Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom
Quick Quotes
Q. Well, two-hole victory, but it was quite a nail nibbler. You were 3-up coming down the stretch. Tell us how the match developed.
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, definitely it was tight coming down the stretch, but I got off to a nice start and got up a few holes and got kind of a lead going, and then she came back, which I expected her to do, so I just kind of had to dig in and stick to my game plan and stay present, and thankfully got it over the line.
Q. It's important just to kind of keep the head when you've got a decent lead; that's match play golf, isn't it.
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, definitely in match play anything can happen, so it's just all about staying present and focusing on my game, and in big championships like this, anything can happen, so it's just all in the last few holes.
Q. This is your third appearance in the championship?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah.
Q. 2020, was that the COVID one; that probably wasn't one of the best memories?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, '21 I think was my first one at Kilmarnock, and then Hunstanton a few years ago, but I only lasted one round because I got COVID, but it's nice to be here at a great course and back competing at this championship because it's amazing.
Q. You had a good runner-up at Ulster, stroke play championship?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Two weeks ago.
Q. Obviously a different format, but coming in with a nice bit of form?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, it was nice. I had my college season and I played well there, so I've been playing solid. So yeah, just keeping that momentum going and taking it one round at a time.
Q. How has the American college scene helped your development?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, definitely. I'm in my second year. I just finished my second year, and the first year was difficult, but I learned so much from that and the experiences, and yeah, it's definitely -- I'm in a great environment with a great team to develop, so yeah.
Q. We're going back a long time with this one, but Maureen Madill, great Irish golfer was the win near at Nairn in 1979, a bit before your time, but it would be nice to follow in those footsteps?
REBEKAH GARDNER: Yeah, definitely. Leona Maguire, as well, a couple years ago. So yeah, just keeping the Irish going strong. Yeah, just trying to get as far as possible.
