Quick Quotes
Q. 4 & 2, a good start. First time you've got past the first round, I believe.
JENNIFER SAXTON: Yep, just one step further each time, which is nice to do. Kind of takes all the expectations off because you always like to do one better than the last time.
Q. Good strong start today. Talk us through the first couple holes, birdie-birdie start.
JENNIFER SAXTON: Yeah, just hit a nice gap wedge into the first and the putt went in quite firmly, but it went in. Then short par-5 for a second. It was a nice two-putt birdie there, which helped. 2-up through two is always a nice spot to be.
Q. Nairn, your previous experiences here?
JENNIFER SAXTON: Yeah, actually we had a county jamboree up here maybe back in 2015, I'm not sure, and it did come down to the last hole, last day, so it was nice to get that over the line, so I have good memories of this place. We all run in the sea afterwards.
Q. Slightly chilly?
JENNIFER SAXTON: It was freezing, absolutely freezing.
Q. Am I right in saying you're possibly the oldest player in the field this week, which is quite staggering? Do you feel a veteran?
JENNIFER SAXTON: Well, we all joke about it, but I sit at my desk every day at work and try and come out and compete with these young guns, I guess. It's nice to see the one that's made it through, but I don't field that old. I'm not even 30.
Q. It's the changing face of amateur golf. You're probably more of a true career amateur.
JENNIFER SAXTON: Yeah, I guess more people would do the same, really. It would be good for the game if people were working in golf and trying to compete as well. I'm quite happy.
Q. Did you ever have designs to take it that bit further?
JENNIFER SAXTON: No, not for me. I was never really that good when I was younger, and my golf started getting better when I worked because I still work in golf, but I don't know, golf is a breakaway from work, so it was nice to just go out and play and have fun, and I learnt how to score without putting in the hours of practice. Just get it round and put a score together when you're not hitting it as you want. That's really when my game started to get a bit better.
Q. The proof in the pudding was the St Rule trophy victory, a very prestigious event.
JENNIFER SAXTON: That was a nice one with the grandstands up. That was a good moment in my life.
Q. Are you become being a wee bit more relaxed and enjoying the whole thing with limited expectations?
JENNIFER SAXTON: Yeah, I could be sitting at my desk today. Instead I'm out in the sun at Nairn getting to play some good golf, great golf course. Yeah, expectations are low. It certainly beats sitting doing a day job.
