ROLAND GARROS

May 27, 2025

Mirra Andreeva

Paris, France

Press Conference

M. ANDREEVA/C. Bucsa

6-4, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Congratulations. First rounds are always tough. How did you come back in the beginning when you were really down?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, it's always tough to start a tournament. I felt like she was playing good today. My goal was just to keep fighting, playing, and showing everything I can, trying to put a lot of balls in the court. Then in the end, point by point, I managed to find my rhythm.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. (Off microphone.) How did you find a way to get back on your track...

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, to be honest, I didn't really think about last year, because it's already behind, already in the past. So I was just trying to be super focused on my match today.

Yeah, it was a bit tough to do so in the beginning. But then, as I said, with time I played better and better, so I felt like closer to the end of the match was playing good, not like in the beginning.

Yeah, I just tried not to think about last year's results.

Q. I want to ask you if you're the kind of player who feels conditions. And if you found today colder, maybe slower, maybe any different, and that may have been the struggle earlier in the match. If you can just talk about that.

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, to be honest, I don't really feel the difference. Like, if it's cold, of course I suffer a little bit more to warm up and kind of be warm and get ready to run for every point. But honestly, I don't feel the difference when either it's hot or it's cold, if I play different or if the ball goes in different way.

Conchita tells me sometimes, Now it's cold, so you have to do this, you have to do that. I'm like, Well, okay, it's cold. Well, I don't really feel anything. I don't really feel the difference.

I guess maybe that's a good thing that doesn't matter what kind of weather it is outside, I'm just gonna play my game and do the same thing.

Q. I also wanted to ask you about your outfit today. You walked in with that skirt kind of thing. Is that the first time you have done that? Do you have inputs into what you wear?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, it was the first time I walked in with this kind of skirt. Nike, they kind of created something new for this year's Roland Garros. So I was super excited to wear this nice and long skirt. I have it in two colors: This kind of burgundy and like milky white. I think that I will play my singles matches in this dark red color, so I'm going to use this one to walk on the matches.

Q. A question about diet. I'm curious if you're the type of player that considers yourself strict with diet, and if so, what do you do to keep it up week after week, tournament after tournament?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I'm trying, but sometimes, you know, there are days when it's harder; there are days when you find it super easy (smiling).

Yeah, of course I'm trying to eat healthy, trying not to eat kind of junk food and not to, I don't know, go in at and fast food or eat a lot of sweets. Sometimes there are days when I feel like I really need to eat something sweet, because otherwise I'm not going to be functioning well.

You know, of course I'm trying to eat healthy and kind of... I'm not super strict on myself, but I'm trying to set these little boundaries to sometimes, you know, say no to myself and, you know, eat super healthy.

Q. I was just wondering what's your assessment so far of your clay season? I know it's a bit early to ask because Roland Garros is not over, but so far how happy are you with the clay season you played?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, I would say overall it was not too bad. I lost two tournaments in the quarterfinals. You know, of course, maybe it's not what I would wish for. But I can say that overall these two tournaments on clay that I played, they were not that bad. So, you know, there are a lot of positives that I can take and a lot of experience that I also can take with me.

Now I'm going to try to do everything I can the best way I can while I'm playing here.

Q. You talked about it in Media Days about playing singles and doubles. I know you liked it and it's helping your game. Now you're a top player and physically the season is long. Has it been a team decision, or was it you saying I will play the doubles whatever?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, of course we talk, and we discuss sometimes whether it's good to play doubles or maybe it's just better to play just singles this tournament. Of course we talk.

I like that Conchita listens. And if she hears that I really want to play doubles, of course she's gonna let me. But then, I don't know, if I tell her, Oh, I'm tired and I don't want to play doubles, she's going to tell me, Well, I told you so.

Of course we talk. But I like that she listens and that she respects also my wishes, you know, in order, like, if I want to play doubles or if I want to play just singles.

Before every tournament, we talk.
