ROLAND GARROS

May 30, 2025

Amanda Anisimova

Paris, France

Press Conference

A. ANISIMOVA/C. Tauson

7-6, 6-4

THE MODERATOR: Well done today. A great battle out there. Could you please share the thoughts about the match?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I'm really happy with my win today. It was a very tough match out there today, and some pretty hot conditions. Yeah, I mean, it was a battle, and I'm very happy with the way I was able to fight and play some good tennis.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. It seems like you have had to be quite patient during this clay court season. You had a couple of tough losses, couple of physical issues, I think. What was that like experiencing? How pleased are you with the way you have worked through it to get to the point where you're playing at such a high level here in Paris?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, sort of part of the game. I think results also ebb and flow a bit. I was dealing with a little bit of injuries here and there, but I'm happy with the way my team and I have been able to manage it, stay positive, and just trust the process, because, I mean, we have been doing a lot of tough work out there, and I'm feeling good physically now. So I'm just happy to be having a good run here.

Yeah, I'm really enjoying it out there, and I'm happy to be through to the fourth round.

Q. How much do your memories of your past success in a place like this help you along, even just sort of not even match to match but just day to day, familiarity, comfort level, things like that? Or it's a completely different year, that was a lifetime ago? Curious about your thoughts on that.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I think for sure when I first got here, I was getting some flashbacks and good memories. I think every time I come here I get a little bit of that, but once I get started and get into the groove of the tournament, I try to stay really present and in the moment.

Yeah, I mean, it's 2025 now, so that's how I look at it. But yeah, I mean, it's always nice to have that kind of in the back of my head that, you know, I had a great run here and also hopefully that the fans remember that and how they were carrying me through.

Yeah, it was a good atmosphere today, so I really enjoyed it.

Q. You have had some good results against Aryna before. How do you think your games match up to one another?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, we're both some pretty big hitters, so I'm sure we're going to be going at it back and forth a bit.

Yeah, obviously one of the best right now. She's No. 1. I feel like it's always a good matchup. I really enjoy the fight and the challenge that she brings on. I'm just looking forward to it.

Hopefully I can bring my A game. Hopefully it will be a good match.

Q. You had that incredible run in the past, and since then you have had a really special, incredible, sometimes very tough journey. Can you just talk about what you have learned, the lessons, how it's made you stronger, how you have changed.

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, it's definitely been a journey since, and, you know, I have had some amazing moments and some very tough moments and phases.

Yeah, it's been quite a ride. And I think the most important thing is just the people I surround myself with, the team I have. And yeah, I think that's what drives me every day, especially having fun off of the court. I think that's the most important thing. The wins aren't going to happen if you're not happy off of the court.

Q. What is your approach to when you look at playing somebody again that you have played quite a bit in the past, and you have had success against in the past, how much is this starting from a blank slate, how much of this is thinking about those matches against Aryna before, and what worked for you then, what maybe didn't? How do you approach it?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I don't think too much goes on in my head. I mean, obviously I know her game style. We have played each other quite a few times.

I mean, just knowing the way she plays, likes to play, I think that's enough for me to think about. Yeah, I mean, I try and just focus on myself mostly with each match that I go into, so I'll be trying to focus on, you know, bringing my strengths and doing whatever I can to, you know, play my best tennis. I think that's what's most important.

Q. In terms of the different surfaces in tennis and coming here to the clay, how much do you find that you try to adjust your game at all to the particular surface, or is it essentially your game is what your game is and you don't want to make too many changes in that way?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, I mean, for the most part, I try and stick to the same tactics and the same game style, I'd say.

But for sure, you know, you have to make a few adjustments here and there, and depends on the opponent you play. Clay can be tricky, so I do sometimes make adjustments, but it just depends on the match.

Q. When you go up against the World No. 1 or, you know, multiple-time champion, do you use that to pump yourself up as extra motivation, or do you try and, you know, see the opponent as just another woman in the locker room?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: No, for sure, I mean, it's always special to play someone who's ranked No. 1 in the world. It's not often you get to do that, so I really try and embrace the opportunity and the experience.

It will be on a big court, too. I love playing on big stadiums. Yeah, I mean, I'm just going to try and go in there and really enjoy the atmosphere and enjoy the crowd. And, yeah, try to put up a fight.

I'd say it's always a little bit more different and special when you play against the top players.

Q. I think you have been serving pretty well during this tournament. How has that shot developed, how you see the development of that shot over the years, and technically what changes you have made to kind of optimize it? You're known as a great returner, but your serve is also an asset. How do you see that shot?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: Yeah, that's definitely been something I have been trying to improve throughout the year. We have made a few adjustments, like, technically and strength-wise to try and get a faster serve and work on my placement more.

I'm really happy with how it's been progressing, and yeah, it can be a good asset to my game. I hope it keeps improving.

Q. What kind of changes?

AMANDA ANISIMOVA: I mean, you want me to tell you about the technique I have changed? Yeah, they're just really small changes to my serve. Maybe you can compare the serve I had a few months ago to now (smiling).
