ROLAND GARROS

May 30, 2025

Iga Swiatek

Paris, France

Press Conference

I. SWIATEK/J. Cristian

6-2, 7-5

THE MODERATOR: Iga, well done. A tough match, especially in the second set. Can you talk us through on your performance?

IGA SWIATEK: Yeah, well, for sure it was a nice match, and she really stepped up in the second set. I had to step up, as well.

It became an entertaining match. But I'm happy that I was, so I didn't have to break finally in the last game because I was trying for the whole set. Didn't really do that, even though I had chances. But at the end, yeah, I'm happy that I stayed solid.

THE MODERATOR: Questions in English.

Q. I know that you have spoken about the subject of night sessions. You said you don't care whenever you play. In a piece in The Athletic, he connected between stuff Ons Jabeur wrote about how people perceive women in sports. It reminded him, I guess, the post you wrote a few months ago how people perceive you. He connected between the decision not to schedule women's matches at night to the way women are perceived in the sport. I want to know your comments of that.

IGA SWIATEK: Well, yeah, I think it should be equal. Like personally it's not like, you know, I have big feelings about it because I just do my job. I adjust to the schedule that I'm given.

But, yeah, I think it should be equal, because the women's matches can be an entertainment the same way. As you could see today on my match, they were giving waves and everything. So people like it. We can put on a nice show. That's why I think it should be equal. That's it.

Q. Looking ahead to the next round, talk about your potential opponents, either Elena or Jelena, and the different challenges therein.

IGA SWIATEK: I think Elena is winning, so yeah, we'll see obviously who is going to win. But for sure both of them are great players. We have been playing for many years a lot of matches, so we know our games.

Yeah, both matches are going to be a challenge. But let's see who wins.

Q. Do you have a preference?

IGA SWIATEK: No (smiling). Am I a good liar? Let's say it doesn't matter, really. Oh, my God. I couldn't play poker.

Q. We have had a few players talk about burnout this week. It's something you have spoken about in the past. How do you keep tennis fun? Each match how do you keep it fresh and new each time?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, it's not easy. I think if we would have less tournaments, it would be much more fun for us. But tennis is pretty, like, an exhausting sport because of the schedule that we have. So it's not easy to keep it fun.

But yeah, honestly, like, I love, you know, just working on stuff, and I love practicing. So for example practicing, it's always fun for me. It's less fun when obviously we feel pressure and, you know, expectations on the match court. Then, you know, you feel like you can't really play your game.

I think Carlos is a great example of how to make it fun. Sometimes force it a little bit. He also has a great game for that. Not everybody has such touch to play such amazing shots.

But I also feel like, yeah, when I play good and the ball is listening to me and it's going where I want, it's super fun. This is what we work for, to have these kind of feelings.

It's good to remember that and to also, you know, remember how it felt when you were a kid and you were just playing.

Q. In the end of the second set, you have been talking to yourself a little bit. Was it difficult to keep concentrated with this heat?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, it was more about to, like, get more energy, and that's it. Because I felt like I had many chances to break, but I always, yeah, when I was like 40-30 or 40-15 on her serve, I was losing these points. So I thought I should do more, you know, to finally do it. That's why I just, you know, I talk to myself all the time, so nothing new.

Q. With it being so much hotter today, the different conditions, how it felt, how your forehand felt, how it played out?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, also, I had a different court and different opponent, because I felt like she was spinning more than Emma, for example, so it's hard to compare.

But for sure, like, yeah, the balls were dead faster. I think spinning was much more important to control the ball, and in the air for sure it was flying faster. Even our serves I think we both served faster than we usually do, so it was different a little bit.

Q. Did you make any adjustments because of that?

IGA SWIATEK: Well, with the strings, for sure, yeah.
