ROLAND GARROS

June 2, 2025

Cameron Norrie

Paris, France

Press Conference

N. DJOKOVIC/C. Norrie

6-2, 6-3, 6-2

THE MODERATOR: Cam, not the result you wanted, but still a great run for you here this year at Roland Garros. Can you sum up your performance this year?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, it was a lot of fun playing, and all the matches were so tough, so different. Yeah, Djoker just did the basics much better than me today, the fundamental serve and return, and he was much sharper than me. It showed in the score.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. When Novak's level is so high, what can you do to win? It looked like there was not much you could do really in those clutch moments.

CAMERON NORRIE: I came out and played all right. I broke back in his second service game, and I felt like I got myself into the match, but yeah, it was tricky to hold the way he was returning, and I had to -- yeah, I think I had to raise my energy, and I did that in the second set.

I was up a break, a lot of chances. I think that 3- or 2-All game and then also the 3-All game, and I didn't take those chances, a couple of strange errors for me. I think that was the difference in that set.

Then I dropped my intensity a lot in the third set. Yeah, he was solid today, and he didn't give me anything. Defending well, serving well, returning well, and very sharp.

I didn't play as well as I did in Geneva, and it was not enough to trouble him at all.

Q. Do you notice any evolution in his game over the years that you've played him? Is he playing differently at all? It doesn't seem like there's been much of a drop-off even though he's only won one tournament in the last year or so. What do you see? What do you go onto the court thinking, and is it basically the same old Novak when you get out there?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, for me I think no one really talks about his first serve. For me I'm, like, Okay, I want to make the rallies long and try to play my game. Suddenly he breaks your rhythm serving well. He gets through his service games very quickly, so for me it's really impressive the way he serves. I think that's the part that he's improved in his game a lot.

I mean, I obviously didn't play him when he was a little bit younger, but it's crazy how accurate he is on the serve. Yeah, he was making me overplay a few times here and there. Yeah, he's unbelievable at managing the timing of the match and kind of managing the momentum of the match. It was good performance from him.

I was a little bit flat in some moments, and I think that was the difference. But evolution, the guy is not missing, so I don't see too much evolution, but he's still not missing tennis balls.

Q. So Geneva and here you have momentum going into the big part of the season, the grass court season. Also, what are your plans between now and Wimbledon?

CAMERON NORRIE: Yeah, it was for me a really enjoyable clay season. I think I counted when I was on the bike after the match I played 20 clay court matches, and for me that's huge.

Really, the way for me to take confidence is playing matches and then actually getting through some tough matches. I won a lot of tiebreaks recently, so I can take so much confidence from this and momentum.

I think that's the biggest thing. It's been really tricky to gain momentum. It was a lot of fun playing Geneva and finding my form at the very end of the clay season. So that was really good.

Then, yeah, my plan is to rest, and I think I'll play Queen's, Eastbourne, Wimbledon, and try to get as many matches and try playing my best, and it's a really enjoyable part of the season for me being back in the U.K. I'm not spending too much time there anymore, so it's going to be nice to kind of go back and have the home-crowd advantage in those tournaments, and Queen's is one of my favorite tournaments.

It's going to be a nice feeling to be back in London, and hopefully the weather is decent, not too many hard court matches, and play someone on the grass will be good.

Q. You had treatment on your left foot in the second set. Was that an issue? Is that going to be a problem going forward?

CAMERON NORRIE: No, I felt fine. I felt a little bit out of place, my foot, and the physio manipulated it, and it was fine after that. No, it was all good. No issue there.

Q. On Monday, Andy Murray at Queen's is going to be unveiled at Andy Murray Arena. Do you think that is quite a fitting tribute for him to be at that venue given he's won five singles titles at Queen's? It's very special, isn't it?

CAMERON NORRIE: Very special, and he deserves it. He plays well there. He's won a lot of matches there. Yeah, I didn't know that, so that's pretty cool that he has that.

Well-deserved, and I think he will enjoy that one to have his name on that court. I think it's a good name. It's very fitting.
