ROLAND GARROS

June 4, 2025

Mirra Andreeva

Paris, France

Press Conference

L. BOISSON/M. Andreeva

7-6, 6-3

THE MODERATOR: Mirra, obviously a tough one out there today, but you fought very hard. Can you just give us your thoughts on the match today?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, obviously it was a tough match, but she played really well.

Yeah, it was tough, but I think that there are a lot of positives that I can take from this week. I wish her the best of luck for the rest of the tournament.

Yeah, I still have doubles to go, so I'm going to focus on doubles now.

THE MODERATOR: Questions.

Q. Obviously a very passionate crowd, home crowd here, which towards the end were booing a little when you occasionally had a couple of words with the umpire. What was that like as an experience for you?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I can say that obviously I expected it. It's normal that they would support a French player, so I knew that it's going to be like this. I think that in the first set I managed it pretty well.

I didn't really pay attention to that, but obviously with nerves and with pressure, it became a little harder. But, anyway, I think that I can learn from this, so nothing more I can say for now.

Q. You have made such progress over the last couple of years in getting control of your emotions in tough situations. Was it more yourself and your disappointment in your play, or was it that hostile atmosphere of the crowd? What was it that sort of pushed you over the edge today in a way that hasn't happened in a while?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I think everything together combined. I was not really happy with some points and some shots and decisions I made today on the court, but yeah, obviously with pressure and with pressure from the crowd, and sometimes I also felt not very confident in some actions that I do on court in my shots.

All of this together, I think that it played a role in this, but I think that, again, I will learn from this. I will do everything that I can to maybe not do it the next time I play a big match like this (smiling).

Q. You don't play that many players ranked around where she is, but you probably have some idea what a player who is ranked between 300 or 400 or so normally plays like. How much better is she playing right now than her ranking? How would you describe what her level is actually like?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I know that she was, like, 150, but then she had an injury. So I just knew that rankings is rankings. You know, if you're ranked 5 in the world or 300 in the world, I think that the match can be tough, and it can be pretty much at the same level. So I didn't focus on the rankings pretty much.

So I just knew how she would play. I know her from 60Ks in Switzerland. I knew her from a long time ago, so I knew how she would play. Yeah, I think that now she's showing that she's probably a better player than her ranking right now.

Q. Just the pure game, what are the biggest challenges that she creates for you when you're playing against her?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Yeah, well, she has a great serve. She has a great forehand. I think she hit a lot of winners with her forehand today.

I think that she also played solid and consistent throughout the whole match. So honestly, I can say of course I could have done something better as well, but it is tennis. So today she managed the situation better than me, and I think that's why she got the win.

Q. You were saying that you'll take some lessons from dealing with the French crowd today. I just wonder what you think some of those lessons are, what maybe you might do differently next time if you found yourself in a similar situation?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I think that the way I managed to kind of not react to anything they say or scream in the first set, so I think that if I would have been able to do this throughout the whole match, would have been great.

But obviously sometimes, some moments, it was harder. But I think that if I learn just to be the same as I was in the first set and not to react to anything they say for the whole match, then I think that would be nice.

But for now, I have a lot to learn, so I'm going to take this time to learn and improve.

Q. You used the word "pressure" in the beginning of this press conference, pressure of the match, pressure of a quarterfinal. I remember your press conferences last year. You didn't use this word. You were talking about your freedom to play, your hunger to play, et cetera. When did you start to feel some kind of pressure, maybe related to your ranking, your status, your own ambition on tennis court like today? When did it start really to switch your status?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: I would say that it all started maybe when I just had to defend a lot of points, you know, that I earned from last year.

So I think a lot of players, they feel pressure when they play, obviously when they have to defend the points, or when they have to defend the title. It is the part of this sport, maybe it's not that nice, but you just have to learn how to deal with it.

I'm still learning, so I think I have a lot of time to learn still, so I don't know. I hope that next time I'm going to deal with it better.

Q. You know the other players who are left in the draw very well. Do you think that Lois can win this tournament with how well she's playing right now?

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, you know, it's easy to say, just sitting here. It's not easy to do so when you're on the court, but I think that if she keeps playing like this, freely and not being scared or afraid, I don't know if pressure to lose or whatever you can be afraid of, I think everyone can win.

You know, it's not going to be easy, but I honestly don't know. It's going to be pretty interesting to watch and to see who's gonna be the winner in the end of this week. I don't know. I think if maybe she believes in herself enough, maybe she can, but I don't know. For me it's just tough to say, you know, sitting here.

Q. We're used to seeing you have such helpful and positive interactions with your box, specifically Conchita and everyone else who is there. Seemed like that wasn't happening today. What exactly was going on? Was there communication problems or...

MIRRA ANDREEVA: Well, I can say that, you know, especially in the beginning of the match everything was great, like, you know, as usual, as normal, of course.

After I was looking at them if I did some mistakes or, you know, some wrong decisions, to look at her to see what she would say. And after some double faults as well I would look at her to see what she would tell me to, you know, change or improve.

Of course, you know, sometimes I was a bit emotional, so, you know, basically just nothing bad really happened. But yeah, today was one of those days when it's just a bit harder to deal with everything that's going on in the court.
