Y. KAMIJI/A. van Koot
6-2, 6-2
THE MODERATOR: Congratulations, Yui. You've defended your title. This is your fifth Roland Garros and your tenth Grand Slam title overall. You just said in your acceptance speech that a month ago you were injured and you didn't know if you were going to play here, so how special is this title for you?
YUI KAMIJI: Of course, I'm very happy, but on the court just after the match, you know, I was little bit confused, because as I said, I was a little bit difficult position because of injured.
Yeah, when I come here, when I get here, I was, like, just play without any more injured. So it's really step up until coming to play the final.
And, of course, it's really happy, and of course I can't made such a great result without supporting people here at Roland Garros and also at home. So I'm really appreciate that, and I want to share that moment with these people when I get home.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in English, please.
Q. At the start of the week you said that you were treating this tournament on the results of last year when you were beaten in the first round rather than the brilliance of the Paralympics. Did that help you find your motivation and desire to get through the tournament?
YUI KAMIJI: Especially today, because I played against Aniek in the semifinal at the Paralympics and exactly same court, so I was a little bit think about it, and it was also today. But it was really tough. It was three sets.
From yesterday's match I played two matches, and both three sets. I don't want to use my energy a lot, so the point to be short and have to be smart and take first chance, it was really simple, and it really worked.
Q. Would you explain what the injury was? What was the injury that you had a month ago?
YUI KAMIJI: It was my wrist. Yeah, I played World Team Cup last month and also clay court. I knew that my wheelchair wasn't good position for me, but I had to play for Japan team.
So I knew it might not have injured but might have some problem, little problem, but it was bigger than I thought, yeah.
Q. You just won your fifth Roland Garros, the same number as the legend, Diede de Groot. What does it mean for you?
YUI KAMIJI: I didn't know that, actually. Yeah, clay court is my favorite court. Also, I had good memory here, so I really love to come back Paris every year.
Yeah, today I got another title here, so it's unforgettable, I think.
Q. You said after the Paralympics you went back to Japan, and you had a great celebration. How do you celebrate this one?
YUI KAMIJI: Well, I just heard I have to go Concorde to celebrate. I don't know what's waiting for me and KG, as well. First we're going to go there and see what happen. Tomorrow I go home, yeah, see my parents and family.
Yeah, as soon as possible, I want to go to the hospital to show them my trophy, and I would like to say thank you to them.
