Quick Quotes

Q. Do you think the new public drip had anything to do with your good round?

MARTIN KAYMER: Obviously the clothing is not a changing factor, but it does help when you feel like you're looking good and you feel good if you wear the right stuff. I had the pleasure back in the day of working with Hugo Boss for many, many years, and you also, when you wear something nice, it makes you feel good.

But I hit a lot of fairways today. I made a few good putts today was the main reason why I played well.

Q. You led the field today in putts per GIR. Was there anything different you did today to make a bunch of putts today?

MARTIN KAYMER: I didn't have that many difficult putts. I just needed to put a good stroke on it. I spent a lot of time on the putting green the last two days, felt good within 10 feet. Fortunately didn't miss any of those within 10, 12 feet today, which is huge, and I kept the bogeys off the scorecard. I had only one bogey on the toughest hole on the course, I guess 12. But overall I felt comfortable. Those greens, they run pure.

Q. Can you talk about that birdie streak you went on to end the round before you parred 1?

MARTIN KAYMER: Yeah, 16, 17, 18, are they birdie holes? Not really, but you can make birdies there. I just hit it within seven, eight feet every hole. I hit really great approach shots. Put myself in a good position, hit the fairway, hit the green and made the putt. Seems very simple, but it's never easy coming back from a break, so you never know what to expect.

On 16 I hit a really poor tee shot. I got extremely lucky it went to six, seven feet. Sometimes you take those bonuses, as well.

Q. Your last lead was Houston last year. Did you feel like you can build off that and get into contention over the weekend?

MARTIN KAYMER: I know I'm good enough. I know I can play good golf. I've proven that many, many times in my career. But you need to continue hitting fairways, and that was the downside for me. I was missing so many fairways. Today the game was there, but if you were in the rough or in the trees, it was very difficult to score.
