Quick Quotes
Q. What are some of the challenges of playing golf in a hockey jersey?
ADAM HADWIN: Well, the biggest one being that I am a very small framed individual, and I don't think they make hockey jerseys that small. It's a little bulky, as you can see. I had to roll up the sleeves. I actually tucked them into my own sleeves so they wouldn't fall down.
I certainly couldn't hit a golf shot in it, but making a putt is fine.
Q. You had seven birdies out there today. What was working for you in general, especially on the front nine?
ADAM HADWIN: Tee to green, I've been spectacular this week. I've been in the fairway. I've had lots of good opportunities to attack pins. I've hit a lot of good quality off shots. I've given myself a lot of chances. I need to make a few more if I'm going to have a chance tomorrow.
Q. How close is this golf course to really running out fully since the rain that came in earlier in the week? How has it dried out?
ADAM HADWIN: Fairways have definitely dried out. Greens are still a little soft; they grab pretty quickly. Definitely we're starting to see some release at least downwind with mid irons which we hadn't seen. I imagine by afternoon tomorrow, especially if the wind gets up at all, it will be a bit of a different golf course than we saw Thursday.
Q. How aggressive will you be able to be tomorrow to try to chase down a lead that's probably going to be pretty sizable after the guys are done with the golf course today?
ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, it's going to be tough. That finish was a bit of a slap in the face. I had an opportunity to kind of post a number and have a chance tomorrow and kind of faltered there on the last two.
I feel like -- I don't want to say I shot myself out of it on those two holes, but we'll see how far they get ahead. Certainly a low 60s is not out of the question around this place. We've seen it this week.
I think at this point it's going to come down to whether I can get hot with the putter tomorrow.
Q. You spoke about this yesterday, but I'm wondering has it been satisfying that you're finally starting to see some results after several months of playing well but not scoring well?
ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, to be able to continue momentum from Thursday and on, it's been a great feeling. Just the fact that I can kind of set up and know the shot -- or know where the shot is going and how it's going to come off is a great feeling, something that I felt like I've been missing for a while here.
Yeah, just in a really comfortable place tee to green right now.
Q. Is it, not coincidence, but are you being helped by the energy of the crowd?
ADAM HADWIN: I think so, for sure. Listen, we all come up here, we want to play our best golf in front of our home fans. It's a great opportunity to be up here. It's always fun to come up. I thought the game was trending in the right direction.
Yeah, just go out there and be who I am and trust that I know what I'm doing, I think that's some of the biggest things that's pushed me along this week.
Then just lean into the crowd a little bit more. I tend to shy away from it a little bit. Putting on a hockey jersey is not something that I've done in previous holes on the Rink. Just leaning into it and kind of having a little bit more bravado a little bit out there, and just having some fun with it.
Q. If you don't mind a quick follow-up, once upon a time in 2010 and 2011, when you kind of made your mark, you did lean into it. So was it just kind of recapturing a little bit of the youth?
ADAM HADWIN: I think so, yeah. Obviously I was in a very different place back then. If I remember correctly, I kept telling you guys I was just a Canadian Tour player and this is all kind of fun and games.
Yeah, just trying to walk around with a little bit more swagger, keep telling myself that I am that good, that I can do this, that I know how to hit this shot, and feed off the crowd a little bit. I had a lot of fun out there.
Approaching greens and all that stuff, acknowledging them. Taking in that atmosphere on 14 around that tee box. That's so cool. It's so much fun as a Canadian to be up there.
God, I left putts short every day there, but that just means I can hole a good one tomorrow.
