LIV GOLF VIRGINIA

June 7, 2025

Martin Kaymer

Gainesville, Virginia, USA

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: We've got Cleeks GC captain Martin Kaymer. Appreciate you coming in. Is it the hat? Is that why you're playing so well this week?

MARTIN KAYMER: Yesterday somebody asked me if it's the clothing. Oh, it was you. It's always helpful, as I said to you yesterday, always helpful when you feel like you are dressed well and it fits. It's something that I enjoy putting on in the morning.

But it's more about my game that got me to the number, yeah.

Q. Marty, we've got you up here, G-Mac in contention, Phil is in contention. I asked G-Mac this question: Did the 2010 major winners get together and decide to make some noise this week?

MARTIN KAYMER: Yeah, it has been a long time for me that I've won a tournament, and it's nice to have the chance again to feel that heat tomorrow. You can only hope to have a decent good start, that you either keep the position or maybe get all the way on top. There's so much about the front nine, how you start one of those days at least for me.

But I said to Pat Perez after my round that it's more about putting another good round together and then see where it ends up. Obviously ultimately you want to come here and win the golf tournament, but in my case, I enjoy playing golf this week. I've been hitting a lot of fairways; that would be the weakness in my game for I would say the last two, three years, and fortunately this week it has been really good, and I found something that works well. If I can put three good rounds together, that would make me very happy. But obviously as an athlete, it comes down to results, and it's all about winning or no one cares.

It's one of those days tomorrow. I look forward to playing tomorrow.

Q. At one point you were one of the best players in the world. What would a win this week mean to your career? You're still young enough to compete. What would this do for the trajectory of the rest of your career?

MARTIN KAYMER: Yeah, I've been waiting a long, long time, and I haven't really been there the last two, three years. That's the truth. But I feel like I'm getting closer and closer, it just hasn't really come together. I didn't have many good results, but my game was in decent shape. This week I could put two good rounds together. But winning a golf tournament again, it would mean a lot. It is difficult to win golf tournaments. I wasn't realizing that when I was starting as a professional because it became normal to win one or two events, maybe even a major PLAYERS Championship. I didn't really think much of it. Obviously you're proud of it, but I didn't really think how special it was.

I almost started from scratch again. It doesn't matter what I've done in the past. When you're standing there the last three, four holes, I think you go through the same emotions than when you won your first event, and that is the beauty.

I'm 40 years old, and the game, it never really gets boring. It doesn't matter how much success you've had in the past.
