LIV GOLF VIRGINIA

June 6, 2025

Bryson DeChambeau

Jon Rahm

Gainesville, Virginia, USA

Robert Trent Jones Golf Club

Press Conference

THE MODERATOR: We've got Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau, shot a 5-under 66. He's tied for the lead. And Legion XIII captain Jon Rahm, shot a 67.

We'll start with Bryson. What in the world?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: I don't know. It's one of those things, you come back from a rain delay and usually think you're going to try and slowly get into a flow, and I came out hot and hit a great chip shot, great drive on 15, great second shot, nice putt. Then the chip shot to kind of cap it off was pretty lucky.

So just a little bit of luck. I've been playing good all day too. It wasn't like I was saving par all the time. It was just couldn't get anything going for me. But it was a great round of golf today, so proud of myself.

Q. Jon, how would you describe your round today?

JON RAHM: Very good round of golf. Started off great, great first few holes. Get a few under par early is always nice. Sometimes we're in rounds where you can have a stretch of holes where you're not doing anything particularly too bad and things are complicated, but I was able to minimize that and play really solid golf at the end.

Again, if there's anything I could say, I had a lot of looks -- even before and after the rain delay. So from 11 through 18, I had a lot of makable looks, a lot of good putts. Only made the one on 14, but that's golf.

I think I should be very pleased with how comfortable and how well I played today.

Q. How did you guys spend the rain delay, 107 minutes?

JON RAHM: Food. I got some food the second we got there.

What? Oh, Jesus, thanks. Thank you.

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Sorry.

JON RAHM: Yeah, so I got some food, and then the tennis semifinal was going on. Djokovic was playing Sinner. So I tried to watch that, and then after that, I waited in the locker room in a quiet space in a busy clubhouse until it was time to go, nothing crazy.

It wasn't too long. It was kind of a nice break, to be honest. Not that I would have liked to have it in any circumstance, but it was nice to take 30 minutes off, get some food, and go back to the range.

It was nice to get back out there to perfect weather. Nice and cool, no wind, no rain. Couldn't have asked for an easier finish in that sense.

Q. Bryson, did you spend all 107 minutes thinking about that chip on 14?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: No, I was eating a lot of food actually and got my feet treated. Talked to my players, saw how they were doing, interacted with them. Not much more than that. I was on my phone for a little bit, played a game, and that's about it.

Q. For either of you guys, how were the conditions impacted after the rain delay? The greens obviously were softer. Did you attack them more?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, definitely. You could attack it a little bit -- the greens are still firm, though. It wasn't like it softened it completely. There was still some shots, like 16, you couldn't land it back there on that shelf. It would have gone over the green. I pulled my shot and didn't give it a chance.

Joaco's could have easily gone in the hole. Did it slow down a little bit? Yes, but again, the greens are still rock hard. One thing in particular, the wedge shot on 17, I wasn't thinking and kind of caught it in wet conditions, and it just kind of fluffed up there and didn't go as far as I thought. So it impacted a little bit. But it made the chip shot on 14 a lot easier.

Q. Bryson, early in the round, it seemed like your putt speed was a little bit off. Did you figure that out as it went along? Do you also think that those fast fire greens are going to be a help next week?

BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU: Yeah, the greens out here are going to be helpful for next week for sure. I just wasn't, for some reason, completely comfortable on the greens. They got really fast out there early on. I usually try to prepare for that on the practice greens, and it didn't help today.

I'm going to go out and hopefully work on that this afternoon and get that dialed in because you're going to need it for next week too.
