RBC CANADIAN OPEN

June 6, 2025

Andrew Putnam

Caledon, Ontario, Canada

TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course)

Quick Quotes

Q. Andrew Putnam, low round of the day, 62. What was firing out there today?

ANDREW PUTNAM: I hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of good iron shots too, and my putter was on fire. Pretty much did everything right. Didn't really make many mistakes.

Q. You led the field in strokes gained, putting today. What was it today that just got that putter going? Did things dry out a little bit for you out there?

ANDREW PUTNAM: I put on a new putter grip this week. I've been rocking the same putter grip for a year and a half and was well overdue. It was getting kind of slimy and hard to hold onto. So I think that helps. My hands feel very comfortable on the putter.

And I grew up on these kind of greens, so I feel like I can see the lines pretty good.

Q. The 9th hole really took a pound of flesh yesterday from the guys. More gettable pin position today, and you had that great second shot. Can you take us through that second shot that ended your round on such a high note?

ANDREW PUTNAM: We were on that tee, and it was supposed to be kind of in off the left, and it switched left to right. So it gave me a chance to have like a mid-iron in with a good drive.

Very accessible pin for me. I like to cut the ball, and the front right pin is like a green light situation for me. I was happy to end the day like that.

Q. How does it feel to take a lot of momentum into the weekend?

ANDREW PUTNAM: The game looks good. I'm excited to keep it going. A lot of birdies out there. Got to keep going low.

Q. How would you sum up your season? You're coming off three made cuts. How would you sum it up so far?

ANDREW PUTNAM: It's been a pretty slow start. It's been a different year. I haven't been in a lot of those elevated events, so the schedule's been different. It's been tough to adjust.

A lot going on, got a newborn. There's a lot of adjustments. Finally feel like I'm getting into a rhythm and starting to play my normal golf.

Q. Would that be part of the reason that you're here playing given that it's been a while since you've been to this event?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Some of my favorite events are Colonial, Memorial, been in the U.S. Open a lot. So it's always like got to take a week off.

I've always loved coming to Canada. Feel like the people are extremely happy. The sun's out. They have terrible weather all year, so this week they're always very excited to be outside in short sleeve shirt. I'm used to that, being from Seattle.

I love coming here. Yeah, I guess I should have been coming here more often.

Q. How much difference was it playing the ball down today compared to (indiscernible)?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Yeah, we got a couple mud balls out there, but not too many. It was nice. Obviously the course is in great shape coming into this week. We got that rain, but it's rolling great now.

Q. You said new putter grip. Is it the same putter grip you've been using, but you just got a new one?

ANDREW PUTNAM: No, it's a new one that --

Q. So different style?

ANDREW PUTNAM: It's kind of a standard putter grip. I think it's called Two Thumbs or something, but it feels great. Just a little more tacky. Feel like my hands fit on them a little better.

Q. What was the old one you used?

ANDREW PUTNAM: Just the standard Odyssey grip that they put on there.
