Quick Quotes
Q. Taylor, just wondering if you could take me through the tee shot on 7 today. What club did you hit, and what kind of flight you were going for there?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: It was 226 pin, and the wind was a little down off the left. Hit a really nice 5-iron to five or six feet, which was a bonus. That's a long par-3. You're not expecting to make birdie there. Hit a really nice putt, and it went right in. So that was a bit of a bonus.
Q. That shot obviously came off exactly the way you wanted. You take on the pin at 9. Is that a product of how you're feeling today, or is that a product of I'm just going to be aggressive out here in general?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Me and my caddie talked about hitting it right of the pin. I was standing over, and it really -- that pin suits my eye well. I told him after I hit it that I just couldn't help myself going at it. I know left is not really great there, but it ended up in a good spot.
Yeah, I think I maybe pulled it a little bit. I was trying to hit it, ended up right of the pin. It was a perfect number with an 8-iron and a hole location that I liked. Felt like I was swinging it good and wanted to be aggressive.
Q. Taylor, I've got two questions for you. The first is how much were you and Nick and Mack feeding off each other out there and also feeding off the crowd?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: It was great out there. I felt like the crowd really filled in on the back nine. Nick was making some birdies, and I was making some birdies. Mack holed a 6-iron on 5. So it was a lot of fun. The crowd was into it. Nice to see a lot of people out here on a rainy day.
Yeah, we had a blast out there, and we all played pretty well.
Q. I was wondering, all three of you, obviously your first time ever playing the Canadian Open was amateurs, playing the last group of the day, trying to get in before dark, that sort of thing. Have you had a chance to think about how much your career has changed since then, like in Montreal, and now you're one of the marquee groups and getting the biggest galleries?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Yeah, it's really cool. That was my first Canadian Open as an amateur. I shot 65 the first day. I think I was in third or fourth. Super nervous all night and the next morning, and backed it up with a 75.
Those experiences, I think, help me here where it's one of the biggest events for us and it's one that we look forward to all year. So, yeah, it's my fifth or sixth Canadian Open now, and it's nice to play in a group with those guys and have all the fans supporting us. It's the week that we look forward to every year. So it was a lot of fun.
Q. Can I ask how the rain played for you today? I know Nick said pants on and off, bag getting heavy. How did that play for you?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: I took my rain jacket on and off ten times. On the range this morning it was raining pretty good. I was hoping it wouldn't stay like that. It was nice for a couple hours out there, but I would say there wasn't much wind, so that at least was good.
It was pretty wet. The greens were soft, and you really had to control your spin with the wedges coming into the greens and just kind of be smart with where you need to land the ball. So that made it tricky.
It's, I think, very scorable today. The winds are down, and there's some pins you can attack.
Q. This is definitely a different type of test, but is there anything you're working on this week that could be beneficial for the challenge next week?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: Next week you're going to have to hit fairways. The fairways are relatively wide here, I'd say. I know they're narrower next week, but I feel really good with the driver and have been swinging it well for a while now. I think, yeah, keeping the ball on the fairways next week is going to be huge.
There's a lot of drivers out here, so just getting some practice with that.
Q. Have you been to Oakmont?
TAYLOR PENDRITH: I went two weeks ago. It's hard, yeah. It was a day that was probably 10 degrees Celsius and blowing 20 and raining. It was very, very difficult. Hit driver on a par-3. Probably never done that before or not in a long time. It's tricky.
